Msn is an instant messaging system developed by Microsoft in 1999. The official name for msn currently is .NET Messenger Service. Since, the main client used to access msn is called the Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft has recently started referring to the entire service as the Windows Live Messenger Service. Msn allows anyone with a Windows Live ID to sign in and chat in real time with other people. MSN.com, is the 16th most visited domain name on the Internet.

Microsoft used the Msn name to advertise many web based services. The most recognized are Hotmail and Messenger. They later renamed all thier clients under another brand name, Windows Live. Along with the ones I mentions there are many other clients that can be used.
