My girlfriends theory about love.

I am in no way affiliated with the below theory. Im just curious on what you guys think about it.

Okay so my girlfriend is a very... Creative female. Well one day she told me that she believed that when the universe was created/made/formed,(whatever suits your beliefs) the atoms that now make up all of us (humans) determine who we are meant to be with and will fall in love with. She believes that atoms that were close together during creation are the atoms that will eventually come back together, but in us as humans, and the person that is made of the atoms that were close to yours is the person you are meant to be with.

Sorry if I didnt explain it well. She's better at it. But before you start criticizing my girlfriend, just remember we all have our own beliefs (she is catholic). It all comes down to if you believe in destiny and what your beliefs are when it comes to our very existence.

So what do you think about this? Do you agree? Take in mind that this is just an idea she had. Its not something she lives her life by or anything.

I can kind of see where she is coming from, but I can't agree. What if an atom in me was close to an atom of tree? Should I love the tree? It could make sense, but I don't think love is something in your atoms. I think it is something in your mind, special feelings for one specific person.

I've definitely seen this before... I just can't remember where.

Anyway, it's a provoking thought. However, I do not believe in it.

It's not the first time I've heard that exact story, personally I disagree because I don't believe in all that bullshit.

I'm sure your girlfriend is a great person, but Catholicism is borderline retarded. On topic cool theory.

I've heard of this somewhere before. I think it was from like a tv show or a magazine but I don't believe in this at all. It just doesn't make sense.

Nice topic to bring up on the other hand.
Thanks!

Maybe this explains why that lady in canada fell in love with and married a dolphin?

Prove it. You labeled this thread a science, yet failed to provide evidence for this claim.

Theory- a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, esp. one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.

synonyms: hypothesis, thesis, conjecture, supposition, speculation, postulation, postulate, proposition, premise, surmise, assumption, presupposition

Prove what? Its a theory. I never said that i was stating this to be a fact. Therefore I have nothing to prove. I was simply stating an idea. There is no evidence, its a theory thought of by a teenaged girl, what do you expect? A research paper? No, just read the thread and state your opinion, don't tell me to prove it when I clearly stated I was in no way affiliated with the theory. As for why I labeled it a science, I felt that it was more fit to be under this prefix instead of a philosophy or religion.

The point of science is to come up with a theory and then test it. This is not science, it is merely an idea. Philosophy would fit much better. Scientific theories are backed by evidence and years upon years of testing. A scientific theory is considered fact, whereas a regular theory is merely opinion.

I didn't mean for my reply to be taken as an insult. I was merely pointing out that science involves evidence.

Anyways, as for this idea that your girlfriend had, it's highly improbable. It's merely wishful thinking. We'd all like to feel like the universe has a special plan for us, but it's simply not true. This, along with many ideas, is a very solipsistic one. Humans are completely insignificant to the rest of the universe. To think otherwise is very arrogant.

That's a neat theory, I suppose. However, she literally has absolutely nothing to back up her claims except her wishful-thinking suppositions. Besides, this theory contradicts Catholic dogma. She can't believe this unless she forfeits her stature as a Catholic.
