My ISP blows

I need some intuition from all of you's because quite frankly, my ISP pissing the fuck out of me.

A couple of weeks ago, I used to have an internet plan with 155GB of bandwidth (both upload and download). The plan I had gave me 75 GB but I have two 40GB insurance plans added, tallying up to 155GB monthly.

I decided to call them to have the two extra insurance plans removed since I was predicting to steadily decline my internet access over the course of the summer for personal reasons. When I called them, I was standing at a current usage of 140GB or so. I thought 15GB would be OK to end the month without going over my bandwidth. So, they made the changes and removed the additional insurance plans.

Today, I decided to check-in on my usage on my ISP's website using their handy usage tracking service. I noticed the following;

I called them and spoke about it and they said because I went over my bandwidth, they are going to bill me that surplus 20GB or so that I went over using the over usage fee, which is 2.50$ per GB. I was freaking out.

Here's why.
I was already at 140GB-ish when I cancelled the insurance plans. Having said that, they're going to charge me extra usage fees on usage that was carried out before the changes were made?! That's incredibly ridiculous!

It's so badly done that I'm getting confused even trying to explain it to you. My ISP is full of sh*t.

Everything seems fine to me, you're just over-reacting.
Pay the extra money and learn not to use 155GB of data a month...
Problem officer?

Seriously though, ring them up and ask to speak to a supervisor and then the supervisor's supervisor.

You should get somewhere up the chain there and inform this of the error of how when you had the insurance plan it was adequate however when you removed it I was charged excess before the month changed.

Why don't you just take out an unlimited plan?

There aren't any neighboring ISP's that offer unlimited plans. It's on the downfall.

I know how to stay under my allowance, that's not the problem. The issue here is that they're billing me extra usage fees for the usage that was used before I made the changed. Those fees should only apply to the GB's used after I cancelled.

It's their policy. I can't do anything about it. It's not a mistake. They're just full of shit like that.

Ouch, I could never live with limited net. I'd either move or stop going online.

I used to have unlimited but then they took it away. At that point, you have no choice. You either adjust your browsing habits or you stop altogether. The CRTC is a bitch.

@"Solidify" - You won't win with them, they'll have in their small-print some-where that you will still be charged sur-plus for X amount of months after cancelling/changing things.

I haven't bothered calling them back. Rather, what I'm going to do is wait until I get the bill containing the charges that I'm planning to refute. Once I get that bill, I'm going to call them and restate my case.

That doesn't matter. My ISP practically runs my entire province. If I call and say that I want to cancel, they will give me deals. They're so concerned about losing clientele and truth be told, they can afford it. That's how I got my great discounts. I called-in one afternoon and said I was switching and they said not to leave and they gave me 10$ off each separate service (internet, home phone, television and mobility).
