If I were you, I would also get a normal HDD. Around 500GB, or more. Make sure it has 7200 rpm.

That's if he's willing to spend extra $90. HDD are expansive due to floods.

@Immortality. Fix your links, your linking shit that's different and costs nearly $200 more than what you've stated.

A 64GB Kingston SSD is more value for money. Use it for your OS and a game or two and use the extra money for a 1TB HDD.

Just sayin'.

LOL having just the one 128GB SSD and no other drive. How fail.

>Put OS, 5,000 songs, 10 720P movies, 5 games
>HDD full

You need atleast an added 500GB drive in there.

Curical is far much realible SSD manufacturer. Also is curretly faster than most SSD. Also, How is Kingston a better value of money? We're looking at 128GB SSD not 60GB SSD. Also alot have RMA Kingston SSD alot.

@Wetrain, told me he only be playing one or 2 games. 128GB SSD is enough. When prices for HDD go down. He can buy one. Most 7200RPM HDD are same price as SSD. So I don't really see a HDD will be needed. Also Z68 Series offers hyper-response feature which will improve speed of SSD even more.

Also do you even know what OP is even doing with this build. Honestly saying that I fail is just so childish.

He's on a runescape/gaming forum and wants to spend $1,300 on a computer.

He must just be trying to watch old episodes of MacGyver on his CRT monitor...

7200RPM drives aren't the same price as a SSD. The way you're comparing them is completely wrong. You're defining the drives as if they have the same capacity, which they don't.

I'm not saying your build is bad. I'm just saying it needs a platter drive.

Samsung Spinpoint F3 , Caviar Green, Caviar Black, Caviar Blue is nearly same price. That's why most people go with SSD. He's also plan on gaming. BF3 most likely. No gamer likes to wait along time loading their game. SSD is the way to go.

Aus Prices:
1TB Caviar Blue = $110 (11c/MB)
Crucial M4 SSD 128GB = $200 ($1.56/MB)

Those prices don't look anything close to the same price. But anyway.

...I think you're missing the point. I'm not saying don't get a SSD. I'm saying just get an extra 500GB HDD.

Then get the 64GB version and save.
If it's only going to be for an OS and a game or two you won't need a 128GB.
Besides, have you tried Kingston? They're fine..

It's better value because for an extra $20 you can get a SSD AND a 1TB external HDD.

Loool, have you seen reviews on newegg on Kingston HDD. Beside, he wanted 128GB. Crucial way faster reading and write time than kingston SSD. Also your reommending seagate, even more lol. Segate has just started fixing firmware issue with their HDD.

Also none of the good HDD are in stock in Canada.

This is same price.

Wouldn't it be smart, if he waited and prices of HDD went down? You can buy two HDD for that price and put them in RAID.

Lol as much as we try and convince you that it's silly not to put another drive in it. You're not going to agree are you?

You know, sometimes it's good to just accept constuctive criticism.

Getting more HDD's at a later date is the most annoying thing you could do. First you need to partition it the way you want. It then takes ages to copy accros old data onto the larger HDD. Then you need to make up your mind about which critical files should stay on the SSD.

Sometimes SSD's are more hastle than they're worth with the amount of maintenance you need to do to keep them running at top performance.

Just because you read a review here and there doesn't mean that that brand fails at everything.
I have a Seagate portable HD and it's been running flawlessly for years.
You should never just rule out a manufacturer because of a review, even more so when it's ONE review from ONE site.
You should only do so if you've had a bad experience with them, and even then, only blacklist the product, not the entire brand.

You need to stop being so bias :|

How am I being basis? I am stating facts. Seagate has been a well know HDD for having frimware issue. I've also owned two Seagate internal drivers and failed in 1 year. Did I say brand fail? I never said it fails. I actually own 2x2GB kit kingston RAM. Which I'm currently using it on my sister build

Beside, Crucial is far more better and reliable.

How is it annoying? most enthusiast actually think having a RAID system is worth it and proves overall performance. The only thing you need to be worried about SSD is that:

1. You don't degrag your SSD.
2. Never ever have SSD at full capacity.

Must I talk about cons of a hard drive. Hard drives are just too expansive because of floods in Thailand. That's why most reviewer would recommend buy a SSD and getting a HDD after prices have fallen.

Beside, OP isn't going to be having 200 1080p videos or 20 games on his SSD. He's only going to have OS and few games like BF3.

I have 3x Seagate 1TB drives, 1x 250GB WD, 1x 500GB WD, and a 750GB Hitachi. The Seagate drives have lasted longer than the WD, but overall the Hitachi's are my favourite. The 250GB is completely dead and the 500GB WD is having CRC errors. You must have just had some bad luck. ALL the drives basically come out of the same factory. Hence why when Thailand flooded, ALL HDD manufacturers costs went up.

How is it annoying? most enthusiast actually think having a RAID system is worth it and proves overall performance.

RAID systems are great. I'm running 2x 146GB 15K RPM drives in RAID 0 on an HP Array120i contoller. I get access times about 6 times faster than an SSD.
So yes. RAID is good. So why are you giving him 1 128GB SSD?

Having a 64GB SSD and a 500GB HDD brings more uses. Use the SSD utility, forgot what it's called, to use 4GB of the SSD for the 500GB's caching. Still instant boot up. Still have good ol' BF3 on it. AND you will still have decent speeds on the 500GB.
