Hi everyone,

I am going to start saving up money for my move out from my parents house.

I am planning to finish high school, pack my bags and leave to:
The United States of America.

Don't tell me it's bad to move to the USA.
I know what I will be doing: following my dream.

The city I will be going to live in:
Los Angeles

I need your help with some things:
- Shall I follow my study in the USA (going for accountant)?
- Is it hard to find a job in LA?
- Pro's and con's of living in the USA?
- What is an average rent rate in the USA? (In The Netherlands it is $600 for an average house, with 4 rooms, a bath room, kitchen and a big garden.
- Suggest amount of money to take with me. I was thinking of $20k.

Note: Furniture isn't a problem, I have plenty of furniture here to bring over!

Please help me with it!

La is decent in some areas
Also rent runs 800-1000 for most homes in us not including utilities.
20k should be good but take a little more just incase.

-Also I would recommend moving into a ok place with not a lot of room, like 1 Bedroom , 1 bath to utilize your money, Good luck man and Welcome to the USA soon!

Ok well if you go for an accounting major you'll be fine I think. Business schools are usually the number one choice of the average person. Finding a house for rent in LA (the nice parts) will be kinda pricey. Depends what part of LA and location really. And rent on average is more then $600. For $600 you probably would get a small apartment. Personally I hate living in America, I'd rather move back to Canada. But if you're a new comer you'll like it a lot at first.

Thats an AMAZING price. In the US its fairly expensive, you should come to San Francisco!!

Oh yeah!! And move in with other people, its cheaper that way. Share an apartment that is somewhat nice, it maximizes your efficiency and provides good team building skills!

Well, I have raynaud which means I react really heavy to warm/cold weather. I react heavier to cold weather then warm weather, and in The Netherlands it is most of the times cold. I don't think I will hate it, simply because the people, the living area, and escaping the weather.

You'd be surprised. Theres some real assholes you'll run into on the street. And living conditions are not the best. They're good comparatively but overall not so much. LA has a lot of crime gangs and just crime in general.

Living in a city like LA is expensive as hell. My cousins had a one bedroom apartment and paid 1k a month for it. No granite counter tops or anything. It was within walking distance to the beach, though. The United States is shit.
