Add-ons for Firefox started to extend the functionality of Mozilla’s web browser back in 2004, and since then, they’ve been downloaded more than 3 billion times. It’s quite a number, which does not include themes, only items from the Add-ons Gallery.
To better represent this accomplishment, Mozilla provides an infographic that compares the number of add-on downloads with the number of Internet users today, which is less.
Besides Mozilla creating the platform, the contributing factors for crossing this mark are the 25,000 add-on developers around the globe and Firefox users themselves. 85% of the Firefox users have at least one add-on installed in the browser, the average being five add-ons.
The most popular downloads include the recently updated
NoScript and
Firebug and the most accessed categories are those for privacy and security, search tools, bookmarks and themes.
