People's ignorance to themselves

Well this is a weird debate, or statement I suppose, maybe even a question depending on where you stand. Has anyone ever had one of those friends, who always complains about their friends, and you always tell them to just fuck them and move on? The ones where they affect that persons life, and they'd really help by not being in their life's? Yet your friend still encourages them, and keeps returning to them? I'm looking for more of similar stories, or outlook to why people do this. From personal experience when I know that person isn't worth my time, I tell them fuck off and move on. Yet there is always that one friend who keeps going back for more, and I find it ignorant. Your own friends make you aware of the situation, and yet you chose to get more of what you don't want? (No this doesn't have to do with abusing relationships, guys hits girl etc etc etc.) I'm just aggravated with a current situation, and instead of going psycho, I'd rather just like to hear why you guys believe people do this, thanks.
