[People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals]

In my opinion, this group is ridiculous. They bring on valid points about how animals are, "tortured" to bring us food (which I can understand), but some of the things they bring up are just ridiculous.
For example, they are against testing/experimenting on rats. Umm, well that's all fine and dandy PETA, but next time you need/receive a heart transplant why don't you take a minute to consider how this revolutionary surgery became possible? Oh wait...
Many SIGNIFICANT medical advances have been made by testing on animals, and they're constantly improving daily life and expanding our knowledge.

But let's move on:
http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/default.aspx

I'd like everyone to take a look at the first Article, "Say No to Rango".
They are actually Boycotting this movie because you receive $10 off a pet reptile when showing them you're movie ticket stub.
That's just plain ridiculous. Are you meaning to tell me you're going to boycott a movie because a promotion *might* tempt a few kids to buy a snake, which they *might* not take care of very well? Give me a break...

Discuss, post thoughts/opinions on the subject.

I thought that they would be all for the purchase of reptiles, I mean, the living conditions of a reptile in a store would be less then satisfactory anyway, right? I mean, you have to put up with people staring in through the window at all hours of the day, small, cramped cages and whatnot, and I'm sure that they don't keep them after they are a certain age, so wouldn't buying these animals be something they would want to promote? And wouldn't mistreatment of the animals fall on the owners, not the people who promoted the initial purchase? it's not like the movie itself is telling people to mistreat animals

PETA is just a activist group that think they know what's best.
I agree with some of their choices, but they seem like whack jobs, for the most part.

I'd have to agree with you there, throwing yourself over a pig just so it won't go through the meat packers is just plain ludicracy, beings have to eat, beings have to eat other beings, that's just the way life works, they needed to, at the risk of quoting another, build a bridge and get the hell over, and except the fact that it is necessary to do some cruel things to animals. Now, unnecessary mistreatment of animals, thats a whole different issue

Precisely. I'm 100% against animal abuse and animal cruelty, these people seem to take it much further than that.
