Probably not the news Sony would want to hear, but rumors have done the rounds on the Internet that the Sony Playstation 3 was hacked the last 2 weeks. The question is, was this a rumor or has the Playstation 3 been jailbroken indeed?
Rumors initially referred to a website selling a product, PS Jailbreak, which would enable users to jailbreak the Sony Playstation 3. Not sure about the legitimacy of the program a number of users ordered it and found that the program indeed enabled them to jailbreak the Playstation 3.
Hackers and developers alike started hunting the code of the PS Jailbreak program in an attempt to verify the authenticity and effectiveness of the program. To date it would appear as if the program performs what it states.
On the 31st of August 2010 it was announced on PS3-hacks.com that an open-source PS Jailbreak clone, dubbed “PSGroove” was available to Playstation 3 users. Visitors are referred to Github.com where the cloned open-source code are made available free.
It would appear that a jailbroken Playstation 3 is indeed the truth and that thousands of users of the popular console are now scrambling to have their devices modified.
