Prayer in schools

Do you think that it is right to have prayer in public schools? why or why not? I think that it isnt right to pray at school. Everyone has different beliefs so it would be hard to fit them all in. Plus there are a lot of people that do not even believe in praying or a god. I think that religion should stay out of public schools. What do you think?

Well for me it is slightly right, slightly wrong. Why Right? Because they ask for forgiveness of sins that they made on past days and asking for blessings for the current day. Why Wrong? As you said, people have different beliefs. Example on our school, some of our professors asks first the students that who is not catholic. Then if someone raises their hand, then they would be asked to have their way of prayer or join the majority or just simply stay standing until the prayer ends.

I agreed that not all the students don't even have a religion or believe in God. But if I would be a teacher I will do such thing, re: praying in the class. Nothing wrong in prayer besides it is a good thing. Sometimes, its just the pride that prevail the person to enjoy the goodness of prayer. I know in myself that it is a good thing pray. And that's the time to share it to the students who don't believe in prayer and in God. I will not let the students didn't know nothing about God, yet I will go deeper in sharing them about Him.

It is just ok for me as long as nobody is forced to pray. If they think they are coerced to perform some religious acts which are against their will or belief then that's a clear violation of religious freedom.

I don't mind at all. Praying is a means of communicating with the Lord. So I don't think its wrong to pray with other people having different religion, afterall we have only one God. I am catholic I work with people from different religions. We respect each other's beliefs and I have no problem praying with them, as they have no problem praying with me. Most of the time it's not the religion that divides us, its the way we treat each other.

Wow this is hard to say. I think that it would be okay to have separate spaces for kids to pray with respect to whatever religion they practice. Keeping religion totally out, is not quite being tolerant, you know? Tolerance is acceptance of others that are different, and allowing people to be themselves.

But the more I think about it, the more I think this might not be possible. It's best to keep religion and public school separate.

I disagree with you. The little childs most of the time believes in god. And all the religions teaches us good things so prayer must be arranged in schools

I believe that not praying in school is directed at the Christian "Religion" . Other religions continue to practice their faith as usual.
But I think that all people should be able to pray or not to pray. I don't think that anyone should be forced to pray to a God he doesn't believe in. What good would that do?

I believe that it should be a choice. I think that if a child wants to go pray there should be a room in the school that they can go and pray in, sort of like a "silent room" where they can feel safe and where they can devote their attention to prayer.

I do not think that it should be made mandatory with the pledge of allegiance or anything like that, but tht it should be available to those who want to pray.

Of course you can always silently pray, that's what I rememebr being told when I went to school, and it's true.

Well prayer for me is very important, and it is a good that prayes has beee doing in schools so kids at a very young age can learn to pray.schools would just like to teach their students to be more religious. Besides we all know that prayer is our tool to communicate with God.

this activity is absolutely right, because the school children are at their initial stage of their lives, by conducting these kind of activities the student will keep remember their relation to their religion in later stages of life, by this they will be stay connected to their religion.

I have nothing against your point but I think that children should be taught how to pray and how to strengthen their faith. It is not necessary whether you are Catholic or Muslim or whatever your religion is as long as you know that there is one certain God/Allah that exists in the world.

In respect of religion too, students in the school are not oblige to join the prayer if it is prohibited in their religion. Teachers are also aware of that and they give respect to the students beliefs.

The main reason why teacher encourage prayer is to practice faith and to keep the students' awareness of a God or an Almighty Being.

Yes i believe prayer in school is the good..first we teach our parents on how to pray..second it will develop in the school or vice versa..if our parents didnt not teach us so we can learn from the school..

school is the best place to learn all the things.

They don't need to learn prayers at school, they can attend their religious community or their parents can teach them. As they go to school everyday, they can remember to pray and they don't have to do it at school. School isn't the rightest place to talk with your soul, own home is the best, also better than a church.

I think that in Christian countries they would do this because of national pride: for example, in Italy (where I live), there are many non-Christian immigrants and the minority of intolerant people still want the cross in every classroom and prayers at the beginning of lessons.

I studied in a Catholic school, every day we prayed, I liked, I felt protected and my faith grew to the present.
