Jason said:The real question is, who is receiving our prayers?
Winter said:My only experience with praying is when i used to play football, we had the top team to beat to get into the finals and they were undefeated. I prayed so much the night before to beat them, usually i don't prayer but i wanted to beat them so bad. I guess it paid off because we won by 1 point.
Never thought it was possible but it happened. Unsure if it was because of a good day or that i prayed.
Joey said:so then what about all those miracles where people come back to life thats placebo?
Chronic said:I pray alot, I'm christian. but does prayer work? In someway I think, whoever you believe in will make it happen.
Cann!bal said:Miracles are typically coincidences, or are self-proclaimed miracles and not even actual miracles, not placebos. I don't think you know what a placebo is.
I think that's very faulty. What you're saying is implying that whatever you believe in is real if your prayer comes true, and well, that's logically not true. I pray to the flying spaghetti monster, my prayer comes true(coincidence,) but you go a step further and say that makes them real, because they made it happen. Be more precise, because I don't think you really meant that.
Chronic said:I think I might have worded it wrong a little bit, but not for you to make that comment, You might or might not believe in Jesus Christ, but there is no "god" named the flying spaghetti monster,
I'm talking common religions like Buddhism, or Christianity.
I think of it as If you believe in that religion or pray to that god things will happen.
Might be a fact, Might be a coincidence but there have been several occasions where I prayed to God and those prayers were answerd, it wasn't a dumb prayer like asking for money or asking for a 15 inch dick, but it was answered.
Cann!bal said:We're having a debate, but you don't want me to reply?
As for the Flying Spaghetti Monster and Jesus, refer to the below.
Buddhist prayer differs from Christian prayer as for Buddhists don't believe in a God.
So, you're saying if you believe in a religion or pray to a God, things will happen. Again, you're implying that all Gods are true if you believe and pray, that is simply an logical fallacy.
What's your supporting argument that it was answered by God, and simply wasn't a coincidence?
Chronic said:1. Quote. Oh damn, I didn't think that I had to be on FK 24/7 to reply ASAP to this "debate", I was to busy spending time with my family on fucking Fathers Day.
2nd. Quote. Buddhist pray, and so do Christians, it may not be the same way but they both still do it.
3rd Quote. I'm not saying that, I was expressing my experience with prayer, and how I believe in God and when I pray to him things happen, and how Buddhist pray to Buddha and they say the same thing. your saying oh if I pray to Cow Shit to make me become a millionare it will somehow happen (your sarcasm).
4th Quote. That's a stupid question, that's like me asking you what your supporting argument that it "wasn't" answered by God, and simpy "was" a coincidence? What the fuck do you want me to say? I prayed for something to happen and they were answered, and this is multiple occasions.
I wasn't even trying to debate, you fucking asked me a question and I answered it.
You should have listed this post as a "HEY GUYS POST YOUR RELIGION AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT IT ISN'T TRUE", This is why I don't like debating about religion, i don't give a fuck if your Atheist and I don't give a fuck if you don't think god's real.
Cann!bal said:I now see what you said. I thought you were implying that I wasn't responding. What are you talking about? I never said anything relevant to provoke what you're saying.
Let me answer that question with common sense, No, I would not want you to pray, thats kind of a not dumb but off question seeing that I don't even think a Priest would want you to do that.Only Zen Buddhists portray Buddha as a God. Other Buddhists pray to spiritual entities or something of that sort. I said no such thing, my example was if you were choking what would you want me to do? Get on my knees and pray or give you the Heimlich maneuver.
Because I can't list facts, your asking me to do so, Not and black and white, but your asking me to prove my statement with facts. It's a belief, you cannot prove religion.I don't carry the burden of proof, silly. You do. Radical claims call for radical proof. Therefore, it's not a stupid question.
I know this, I just was answering the simple question that you asked, not trying to go any farther. I explained my answer.Well, this is the Philosophy and Debates section. If you comment within this section there's expectations that you're prepared to debate.
I'm pretty sure your picture can explain how you said my religion or "god" wasn't genuine. http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/104/c/3/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster_by_BeautifullyChaotic.jpg by using that picture with 100% sarcasm you were saying Gods real if the Flying Spaghetti monster was real. Or Vise Virsa, your saying that if you can make up "god" and call it real, then you can make up a "monster", pray to it and have answers. Either way you were sarcastically saying gods real.Where did I ever say your religion is not true? I didn't. Stop freaking out over something I never did. Great to know, I like theists who are tolerant of atheists.

Dragon said:well praying is wishing for protection and just the power of your god to help watch over you and always be there with you. Praying is something you would do not to wish evil upon yourself or others, or for you to pray for someone to get better if they`re sick. Although if you were choking I would go with the homelike maneuverer.
Chill said:Actually Cannibal, i kinda have to admit something. As mean and nasty as this sounds my girlfriend had a exam for school and she had to get above 95% to be accepted into the course she was going to after she finished school. I prayed the night before that she would fail it just so she wouldn't have to leave me.
Turns out she failed and it was on a question she skipped by accident. So i don't know whether it was the fact i prayed she'd fail or just stupidity.
Cann!bal said:I would call that a coincidence, because to score above a 95% in college(I'm guessing) on an exam I imagine would be pretty difficult.
Plus, why would an omni-benevolent being answer your prayer which condones her failing against her free will and her sadness that would result of not passing the exam? Would an all-loving God do that? I don't think so.
