2) Make a notification when you receive a PM either a Message box or a distinct bar below the tabs saying you received a PM

I support this, it's hard to notice when you have a pm unless youre expecting one.

Yeah, a pop up is good too. In another forum when I receive a PM I get a message box/pop up saying "you've received a private message, click 'OK' to open it", something like this would be nice, also the ability to disable it, because it might get annoying for some people (staff)
