If you debate religion and theism with believers, why do you do it and what (if anything) do you hope to achieve? Is it really pointless to try and de-convert people through logical arguments and critical analyses of religious doctrine? That seems to be the case, at least in most situations.
You can't reason someone out of a position they never reasoned themselves into in the first place and most people were essentially indoctrinated into religious belief from their earliest years — they were taught that it was empirically correct and even morally necessary to believe certain things long before they ever acquired the tools necessary for basic critical analysis and skepticism.
