Some people upload them to torrent sites as .iso and stuff, and they're messed with or something.
Mountain Lion costs money, and I ended up torrenting it but I guess the torrent was messed up because it didn't work out the way it was supposed to.
I just wanted to be safe and ensure that I got it from someone who actually downloaded it straight from the App store.
Yes it is unsupported, but there are ways to bypass that.
I'm not going to just run the file and hope it works.

this tutorial which comes from MacForums and HackerWayne, who are reliable sources especially for this type of thing. HackerWayne has bypassed the unsupported Mac feature for Mountain Lion, and Yosemite that I've seen and I assume he did one for Mavericks as well.
