Should physical education be compulsory?

In the UK, Physical Education (PE) is compulsory in state schools until the age of 16 for as long as education is compulsory. I for one am a strong supporter of physical education and believe that it is a crucial element of all-round schooling and our society’s well-being, particularly with the contemporary rise in levels of obesity.. For some the existence of (PE) remains to be one, if not the only sources of exercise.

Please share your thoughts on this

Where I live I think you need a year and a half of PE, but if you take certain classes like AP classes then you can get a waiver. I personally don't like PE, but I think it would be good for me right now since I haven't been doing any physical activities.

Well, I disagree that physical education is a completely necessary component for schooling, I don't see the significance and importance of PE that it provides which is so necessary. However, I encourage you to indulge me on the importance and significance of PE.

I think it should be nowadays with all these obesity ads and campaigns. When i went to school back in the day we were made to do it, not that i cared i loved it.

Back at school it created a wake up message to the kids unsure of their weight and how to deal/help with weight loss.

The reason I think it's necessary in schooling is because It allows students to function even better in the classrooms. Regular exercise that most of kids don't get enough of nowadays promotes excellent blood and oxygen circulation. This means more nutrients circulate through out the body which includes the brain. This circulation produces longer attention span during classes allowing longer concentration and absorption of material.

Along the lines of keeping your mind active instead of being bored to shit in the classroom, it;s a great way to keep active because most kids go home and sit on their asses to play video games. This really does need to be made compulsory.

I couldn't agree more, with the way our society is becoming it is more important now than ever before that a system be put in place to counteract inactivity and boredom in youth.

I don't really see it as necessary for a high school req tbh. For the kids that actually are forced to do something they wouldn't normally, it doesn't make any difference. If a kid wants to go sit on his ass at home, he's going to go sit his ass down at home. Lol. 45 minutes of half assed activity in school isn't going to make their life any better. It makes it worse if anything due to the shit people give them. I like pe, just don't think it's really necessary. Lol

45-60 mins a day or every other day makes a huge impact on a persons health. Wether they enjoy it or not it is good for them and should be something that should be used to have fun and relieve stress no matter how much shit they may get .

Studies show that so does chewing gum and sucking on candy, but those things are discouraged.

I'll conclude with saying that I don't believe it should be compulsory, but heavily encouraged instead.

I'm not disagreeing with you, however, I would like to include that it doesn't relieve stress for everyone, in fact, it raises stress levels and lowers comfort to those who don't enjoy physical education.

That's right, people who are active and enjoy PE already have moderate fitness levels. If you're not into PE as much you will find it annoying and non resourceful, therfore dislikign it and ou will not participate in future activities.

I'm just saying that someone who prefers PE will obviously enjoy it more and compete in it more often compared to someone that does theory.

I think that PE is not completely necessary because usually in school we don't even do much in PE. I get more exercise walking to the bus stop than in PE.
