The campaign against sick baby hoaxes initiated by several members of the community continues. Today we present a Facebook scam in which the picture of a child that allegedly has cancer is used.
“He has cancer, Facebook will donate 1 dollar for every SHARE. Hit SHARE button ♥ show your support ..♥ ;'(,” the message that accompanies the photograph reads.
In reality, those who “hit the Share button” don’t show their support for the baby’s family – on the contrary.
The baby whose picture is used in this hoax is Ian Gromowski, who died back in 2007 due to a negative reaction to a Hepatitis B vaccination. As Brett Christensen of Hoax Slayer highlights, the one who launched the vial scheme stole the image and reused it for his malicious purposes.
We urge users to contribute to the campaign against sick baby hoaxes by reporting all such posts to Facebook. Refrain from commenting or sharing since such actions will only fuel these schemes.
