Simple 3D Text [Part 2]

I would assume at the start of this tutorial that you read my previous 3D text tutorial, if not you can read it here.

Now lets get this show on the road

Now starting were we left off i removed the gradient overlays from the text layers:

(Mind the change in font)

Okay, now find a nice image that you would like to fill the text with, something with lots of clean effects is good (I recommend something medium dark)

What im using:

step2.jpg

Copy and past that onto your canvas, then duplicate it. (you will need it again)

Now place one of the images you duplicated above the first text layer, then place the second one above the second text layer like so:

step3.jpg

Now right click each of the images you placed above the text and select "Create clipping mask"

You should now have this:

step4a.jpg

Now what we want to do is add a nice clean shine, start off by right clicking the main text layers thumbnail and choosing "select pixels".

Next make a new layer above all and select your gradient tool with and set it to these settings:

step5i.jpg

(access these setting by clicking the gradient preview in the topnav bar)

Drag the gradient from just off the canvas to a little below the text, you should get a smooth, light gradient. the text should also be selected.

Now select the pen tool and start from the left of the text (about mid level) and may a "wave" like so:

step6ge.jpg

And connect the points as shown in the above image.

Next with the pen tool still selected right click and choose "make selection" then hit Delete on your keyboard.

Next we will need to make the shine look more real, do this by lowering the opacity to about 60%.

For an added touch put a layer mask on the shine layer and use a black radial gradient in the lower middle of the shine like so:

step7ej.jpg

(Press the small rectangle button with a circle in it at the lower end of the layers panel)

Now for the final step, the reflection.

Before we go any further we need to prepare a few things:

Hide your Grey layer at the very bottom then hide your shine layer, now make a new blank layer and go to image then apply image. (found in the topnav)

You should now have a copy of the whole text design itself, go to edit>transform then select flip vertical.

Now line up the top edge of the newly flipped text with the bottom of the original.

Now that it is in place reshow the shine as well as grey layer.

What you need to do next is add a layer mask to the flipped text layer, (explained how before) and select the gradient tool once again, except this time select "Linear Gradient" (first icon next to the gradient preview)

Drag the gradient from below the flipped text to a bit above it to make it "fade".

Now to complete this effect lower the opacity of the flipped text layer to about 35% (differs between color of clipping mask to color of BG)
