Single-sex Education

The ways of the past are gaining momentum, yet again. Single-sex schools and programs have started to make their way back into this world. Along with them, an uproar of debate has started and gathered the media's attention.

I support the rebirth of single-sex schooling.

Why?
  • Single-sex schooling will mainly comprise of programs within the school that allow for the split between genders. Schools won't completely change over to this practice of teaching.
  • Parents have the choice on whether or not there child must attend the given school or not. I, personally, would not attend an all-male school, but I'm not against them. I have a choice on whether or not I'd like to attend.
  • Students have been known to perform better in single-sex environments.

Many believe that it is discrimination of sexes. My question is "How?" Whether or not the child/teen attends the school is his/her or his/her parents' own choice. They are not forced to attend the school.

Parents argue that the performance quality of students decreases in single-sex environments.

If you've ever attended a psychology course in school, you've heard about "Nature vs. Nurture." Nature vs. Nurture is "the relative importance of an individual's innate qualities ("nature" in the sense of nativism or innatism) as compared to an individual's personal experiences ("nurture" in the sense of empiricism or behaviorism) in causing individual differences in physical and behavioral traits."
  • Nurture: How well a student performs, academically, relates back to his/her family upbringing.
  • Nature: Performance also differs from student to student based on intelligence, abilities, and gender.
His/her environment being controlled and dictated to consist of the same sex would not negatively affect the student's learning abilities.

What are your opinions on the subject?

I would definitely be more focused in an all male environment, but I still personally would rather stay where I'm at.

I'm not going to lie, I would be paying MUCH more attention to my schoolwork and classes because, well, what else is there to be focused on?

I must admit, If it was me, I would focus 10x better in school if there weren't a bunch of sexy, scrumptious, yummy, tender, soft, and delicious young looking women there. Of course I am homeschooled so it doesn't really matter.. but you know. Just from memory of how shit was in middle school. (Last time I went to public school)

Well, lets see. We are all forced to go to school, or be educated at home. That is not a choice. You also dont get to choose what school you attend. That depends upon where you live and who your legal guardian(s) are. So no, this is not a choice for most students. It is a forced thing even at the core.

I think gender exclusive schools teach more than just the basic curriculum you would find at a public school. If you know what I mean. I could see sexist tension being created here.

I can honestly say I would be a lot more focused if I went to an all male school. Less distractions. I would prefer to stay where I'm at, though. But I can definitely say single-sex schools aren't a bad idea.

Don't have any problem with single-sex education but I would rather stay at school with both male and females, It's just my personal preference.

I myself am a sophomore at an an all-male high school, and I don't really have a problem with it.

I know what you're thinking. No, I'm not gay. On a separate note, I have found that I have been able to prioritize my tasks more effectively, and have been able to focus better in certain classes. Though it does have its pros and cons, I do support single-sex education, completely.
