Skype lag

Does anyone know why my Skype keeps lagging super bad? It exits and has to restart quite often, it is not signing me out and there is no random logins, so I know no one is getting on each time. If anyone has any thoughts or maybe fixes please let me know because its starting to get annoying.

To answer some questions, I never sign out and receive consistent messages throughout the day, I do not believe there has been one day that I have not had at least 250 messages per day. The majority of the time the issue is that I am typing a response to someone and skype completely freezes for about a minute then shows a loading screen then allows me to complete my message before the lag occurred. It absolutely never signs me out or brings me to the login screen.

Any details you could think of would be great to hear.

Thanks

It could just be it taking up too much cpu?

I also have these issues, it could be a networking issue, are all drivers up to date? I've had to unplug my usb network card whenever it happens to me.

You did meantion you get a lot of messages on skype, it more than likely has to do with networking or Skype simply not being able to deal with the sheer volume or data it has to process and crash's

Getting that many messages could have something to do with it, leave any big group chats you're in also.

My CPU doesn't really go over 10% from what I have noticed since I purchased it.

You have frontier.... I used to have them, thier utter shit.

Addressing your problem, if it's not your Internet or your cpu, it's gotta be a firewall setting or a Proxy messing up on skype(if UOU use one) it all could just boil down to the sheer volume of your messages/contacts etc because keep in mind the Skype application has to double check with it's servers to make sure it has up to date logs of your chats etc, I honestly think it's just the immense amount of contacts, messages, pictures being sent etc. Sorry I couldn't help you more, but atleast I did more than a frontier tech support agent could do.

My apologies for the late reply, I didn't get a notification.

You can hit up the CEO of freedom, George Vanous, he's had this issue before as he Skypes 3000+ people per day.

Too many contacts, messages, chats going on (at least to what I've come to believe) can slow down your skype.

I just installed this recently this , I'm having no issues at all with skype lagging.
I'm assuming its the amount of traffic you get daily ? Not sure.
Is there a cache ?

Don't see it as a firewall/proxy issue as it's signing him out, I've had issues with a firewall blocking skype, it'll just have a blue connecting icon where your online status indicator usually is.

I looked it up but only found this worth a shot.

Quit Skype. Hold the Windows key and type r. In the box that comes up type %appdata% <enter>. Scroll down to find the \Skype folder and rename it something like \Skype_old. Restart Skype.

Id assume it's the messages you receive, one of my skype has over 500 unread messages and it lags my skype aswell. I'd try to clear the messages if I were you. Goodluck getting this solved, it's a burden.

Look for your username in the folder, rename it to [yourusername - old] if you want to keep a backup (or just) login, your messages and contacts should be refreshing slowly and your skype will regain it's speed.

Glad I could help!

You just said it's not a firewall issue, then proceeded to say it's a firewall issue....

This is probably just due to the amount of messages you get. If your whole laptop is effected by it then just install 'Avast' or 'CCleaner' and you can make it so it clears your browser and makes your laptop a lot faster. They also get rid of all kinds of viruses you may have on your computer. Not sure if there is a system on skype so you can make it so you only receive messages from contacts? If there is a suggest putting that on, you don't need messages from people unless it's important, in which case they can message you on FK saying "get on skype" or something.

I gave my explanation as to why I don't think its a firewall issue. He said it was signing him out entirely.
