So what exactly is the point of religion? Why can't we just believe in God?

Tbh, i'd rather not know what to do, i'd rather live my life how I want and rather than people (imams, priests, etc), judging me, only God would be able to judge me.

Only God, once I reached 'judgement day' could tell me my sins and goods not some 'book'.

I don't quite see the point of religion and books - shouldn't we, well we do, pray to GOD, and God only.

Certain things like drinking beer, I see nothing wrong with it. Yet several religious books claim it is wrong. Let me make my own decisions and then if it's wrong, i'll be judged and punished for it later, if God actually exists. Why do I need religion to tell me it's wrong?

Recently, I still believe in God but have thought of the idea of religion as 'pointless'. Can somebody tell me why it is important, or rather, necessary?

Because most religious people believe that they are always correct. They would never give up their beliefs even under threat of death.

A lot of religious people don't realize that only god can judge them because they have been raised to pray to Mary (catholics)or pray to whoever else. Since they were raised like that they believe that they are right and no matter what you tell them they will not see the error of their ways, but hey to each his own.

Also, just to add to that. Quite a few religions state that you must believe in their God in order to go to heaven.
Therefore, some people are brainwashed to believe that they must follow the religion step by step. Asking them to give up on their religion is just like asking them to commit suicide.

Before the Bible was made, people had prophets. Most religions are corrupt anyways. The truth is not in pastors and churches, they are in the Bible.

When Jesus lived he saw how corrupt the churches were and one time he got pissed and trashed the conartists who worked inside a church.

Let me say a few things before I cut to the chase.
- Drinking beer is not a sin. If I remember correctly, getting intoxicated is a sin.
- You can always ask for forgiveness.
- You many not see certain things as wrong, but you have to remember that you are not God.

Find one that suits you, and stick with it.

Though this is like saying "Gulag was because of Communism. Imagine the peace without communism". It is not communism as an ideology that killed these people in Gulag. It was people who did, people who weren't even communist and neither was the country. So in what way can we blame communism for Gulag? We can blame Stalin who claimed to be a communist. /All religions are against wars, people create wars.
Another good comparison today would be the wars "for democracy". So democracy is suddenly bad and the cause? Those who start these wars aren't fighting for democracy, but it is a good "reason" to have to get an army.
