I would like to know how many people here would like to have a homework help section.

This would be an area where you could post homework problems, ask for help, or even post tutorials on how to solve things.

So, who is in favor of this?

Note: This shouldn't just be "give me the answers", this should be a way to help you learn and understand the material.

EDIT:

If this section is made, I may add some "calculators" that I made to it. This could help you check your answers.

Example of one of my calculators is a triangle solver which solves all sides and angles given the minimum information required.

This is also my 1,000th post! =D

I have taken calc 1 with analytic geometry, calc 2 with analytic geometry, multi-variable calculus (also known as vector calc), and differential equations.

I am on my 3rd year of college studying to become an electrical engineer.

So in short, I could probably help you with that.

Also, in my opinion Calc 2 is the most difficult one. Diff eq helps clear it up though. But that may also have been because my Calc 2 teacher didn't understand the material well and my Diff eq teacher was really good.

EDIT:

Just checked, I do have all my notebooks from those classes still.
(Got the textbooks as well).

@"Chewbaka", what textbook are you using for your calc 2 class? I am assuming it is different than the one I used, Calculus 9th edition Larson Edwards.

Definitely support this.

Just make it so people aren't actually posting their exact homework.

Also, grats on 1k!

The 10% man. The 10%. Anyways, I am using 7th edition Stewart.

Why not just a thread?

To me that is kind of like asking why not just a thread for all account sales, why not a thread for all off-topic material, or why not a thread for all music topics.

Know what I mean?

EDIT:

It could be a sub-forum to the "Guides and How-To" section.

In general, you should make a new forum if there is shown to be very popular demand for a topic. For example in the gaming section, if there is multiple active threads on Call of Duty, make a forum for it. If there's one semi-active thread, don't.

Same idea here, make a thread. If that gets really big, turn it into a forum.

Yea, I understand what you mean. But this seems a little different. There was a gaming section and Call of Duty fit into that category. There isn't exactly a category for Homework Help to fall under. So I feel like people are discouraged or don't even think about asking for help here because of that.

I have already made a thread asking for help before, many people were willing to take a look and contribute. However I never got the help I needed. But that is just because it was help needed for an engineering class and most people on the forum aren't in college yet or are just starting out.

However, I would love to give help to people who need it. I understand that some things can be confusing and someone clarifying what is going on can help greatly.

I see your point and definitely support this in whatever form it can be delievered in. I suppose a board as big as RG can make a forum for something if it desires.

RE: Homework Help Section

The point of doing homework is to struggle, and practice problem related materials that your teacher has taught. Eventually, the frustration turns into satisfaction, once you've practiced the problems and build confidence for upcoming exams. For me, I find help from others pointless, because it defeats the point of an assignment. If I manage to stumble across a difficult problem, convenient resources that i resort to are google and my text book.

May I ask what math you are taking?

Freshman Algebra hehe. I've always struggled with math, and of course because math is accumulative I always do good on one part of the test, but badly on the Equation stuff.. :|

Some people get bad teachers or just don't understand the book. Sometimes they need to ask others to get an understanding of HOW to solve a problem. From there they can do all the practice required.

This section isn't for doing homework for others, it is to help them with the process. Usually if they can figure out how to do one problem with someone's help, then they can do all the problems.

Also, helping others doesn't just help them but it also helps yourself. When you teach someone something it helps to reinforce what you already know. Or it could be something you haven't done in a while so it could be a nice refresher.

It's a lot easier to enter a phrase into the Google search engine, and click a link. There are dozens of professional websites that are dedicated to specific materials, which can aid in one's studies. There is no such thing as a bad teacher. There is however, such a thing as a bad student who blames his or her failures on others.
