Joel said:Yeah but then people could just be liking all their friends posts.
People could even exchange money/rep/vouches/cash for liking every one of their posts.
Crysis said:Not many people use "likes" anyway, unless it's something extremely funny.

No, or extremely helpful. Which would actually be good?

Yes some people like helpful threads.
Maxie, if RuneGear was a perfect community, this would be a great idea.
But the like system will be over abused, you will see likes on every thread.
With posts at least they can attempt to manage that.
Not to mention then no one would buy RG Elite or Sponsor to get extra points.
Also The Elite does posts to make the forums far more active, how will likes help either of TE main priorities? (Upgrades and Activity)

They can get upgrades anyway, in the same way. Would still be active because people would try to get likes instead.
Maxie said:Okay, my suggestion is that RG points would be given out when someone likes your post, because it helped them. This would be much easier to check if someone cheated etc.
And I mean... 1k points can be gained in a couple of minutes/hours, and the thread wouldn't be considered low quality.
