I was pondering old memories and thought I would point this one out and see what your opinions are on it. I remembered the time had the pleasure of speaking with the renowned George Hotz (Geohot) a couple of years ago, for all of you who don't know who he is, hes one of the people responsible for the 3.55 Jailbreak for Ps3 back in 2010 (also responsible for jailbreaking iOS). Well anyway, I talked to him about his job working at Facebook, and of course we talked about how Sony sued him and his affiliates for releasing the jailbreak to the public. Sony won.
The debate is, do you think Sony was justified in sueing Geohot ? Do you think that it was fair of them to sue him for distributing their root keys because their security wasn't good enough?
My opinion:
Sony was wrong for doing this. We purchased our consoles with our hard earned money therefore we should be able to modify them as much as we like without consequence. (by consequences I mean being banned or suspended, not the possible risks of modding the console IE. Being bricked or breaking the console)
I think Sony was both embarrassed and upset that they, a billion dollar company, couldn't keep a group of young adults from exploiting their security flaws.
