Page speed is a ranking factor in the Google Search engine. According to Google officials it is currently used in 1 out of 1000 queries. I think it was Matt Cutts who said that speed acted as a tie breaker in situations. It is however likely that speed will play a bigger role

So they have standardization also in the images that are optimized. Well that will good for websites having simple background but having useful information or content.

Well image and flash animation enhance a website. Without image or animation a website looks dull. Lets take an example Youtube its full of videos, images and animation still its server are not down.
