I'll be honest and admit yes I am being more active because of the contest. I was never this active before the Contest happened, and without one I would probably be more laid backed and just chill in the Debate section, That being said, I'm still going to read a thread before I post, and I won't simply post without trying to contribute. Though I do want to win the contest, I won't resort to LQ to get it.
Some users have begun to call my comments spam and claim I only posted it for the points. Lets first define Spam: "A canned meat product made mainly from ham." Now lets define internet spam: " Flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it". Therefore me posting often is not spam because I am reading the thread and responding specially to the thread itself. I am not sending a mass message to you trying to get something out of you.
Others say I'm being low quality because of it. I couldn't find a good definition of low quality so I'll try and define it myself. Low quality posts are short, not really aimed at helping the OP or anyone else in the thread. Low quality posts are normally done by those who made no attempt to read the responses or even more important the thread itself. If you take a look at any of my posts you can see I try to avoid being low quality. Not because it will make you angry but because I enjoy typing my mind.
Now lets move onto other users. I won't name anyone in particular because thats a dick of a move. But those actively engaging in the contest are starting to be rude to each others and take points by insulting each other. I've had one user comment on most my posts and rant that I'm only after posts. By posting there you show your only after points because you haven't read the thread or are willing to help discuss. We need to be a bit more friendly about this, the contest is going to make members hate each other. I've seen others going for the contest just post short responses not directed at the question but simply along the lines of restating the question to get points. These actions are in my opinion what is wrong with the contest.
All that being said remember why we are having this contest. To help get in traffic and encourage users to get more active. If I am spending a good portion of my time reading threads and responding I don't want to hear you complain about how annoying I am. Maybe you should keep your thoughts to yourself or give me a private message. Flaming me in a thread is not only against the rules but its low. If you see someone who is making good posts and trying hard for that contest, encourage them or leave them alone.
If you were willing to read all of that, I have a good deal of respect for you. Even if you don't agree with me it show's your willing to take a minute to understand how others feel. Another interesting thing will be to see how many LQ posts we get on here from those trying to win the contest.
Please discuss how you feel about the contest. What do you think is wrong with it, and what are current contest members doing wrong. Please don't name any other contest members but I give you permission to use my name in any example.
