The lottery of life

This is a concept that I think is very evident and self-explanatory, yet taboo as it is hard to accept for many. We are not all created equal. You may have heard of the genetic lottery, basically meaning we were all born with zero choice. You did not get to choose your appearance, genetics, abilities, family, where you live, etc.

Life really is unfair. Someone born paralyzed never had a chance. Someone born with a deformed facial feature never had a chance. And you, Mr. Average, never had a chance. There is always someone smarter than you, better looking than you, more literate and articulate, more charasmatic, with more money and oppurtunity, more fortune, more luck. We are all aware of natural selection, even if you didnt know it had a name. The very moment you lay eyes on another, you pre-determine your opinion on them based upon their appearance. We all know basing judgement purely off of physical features is wrong, yet we do it anyway, subconciously or not. And that effects how we view and treat that person whether we like to admit it or not.

Beyond the common sense of all that, you didnt even get to choose life or not. It chose you. Your parents made the decision. The instant you gained conciousness you were at the mercy of the world. Depending on where you live, you by default are forced to do certain things, follow certain laws, succumb to certain social expectations, all against your own will.

Think of all the things that come with being alive. You will experience pain, suffering, sickness, at times you will be offended and dissapointed. You will be misunderstood, lied to, talked about, criticized and critiqued to standards you simply can not meet. And some of that is not your fault, but nobody gives a fuck.

One day your parents will die. The dog you love will die. A sibling or a best friend will die. You will lose all of your friends. You will suffer. And you had no control over any of it. Some say life is a gift, others a burden. Im still trying to decide what it is for me. Im not trying to be pessimistic here, but realistic.

I know some will be quick to say well, thats why you live it up. You love everyone as much as you can, be the best person you can be, dont have any regrets. And I agree with all of that. But at the same time its so sugar-coated it makes me sick. The truth is, not everyone does get to lead a happy life. The good times arent always worth the bad times. Some people get the shit end of the stick, because someone has to, right? And we allow it to be that way. It depresses the shit out of me. There is no way around it. It is beautiful, yet evil.

Yet theres a thing called 'Freewill', a conscience lingering your mind providing and concluding your own actions. It may feel like you're trapped and enslaved but it is our choice to make decisions, you can be a doctor, an engineer, or whatever you're mind follows through, not everything in this world is made to be pre-set, but to think on how you'll overcome the struggles and obstacles, it's all within the palm of your hands, even the inequality of life purges the jealous, we still have our own conscience to guide our path to whatever decisions we make.

I undestand and accept that, however the factors that influence the probability or amount of effort needed to achieve that goal is unproportional to that of everyone else.

I will take your example. The conscience you were born with you did not choose. Jeffrey Dahmer has been one of the most analyzed human beings to date. Following the discoveries of modern psychology, we can explain (not justify) why he was the way he was, to an extent. He inherited certain genetic (biological) tendencies from his parents (nature) and was prone to experimentation through his upbringing (nurture). He did not choose the most influential substances that made him who he was. He was born with it, and into it.

Now, to become a doctor or an engineer I can apply the same truth. Someone born with incredibly good looks, who was born into a family that is both morally and financially sound, and that family already has established a business or company in the field of engineering or doctoring, which would also provide and influence and gateway into being an engineer or a doctor. They have more priviledge, oppurtunity, likelihood of being successful than someone born in a 3rd world country who will never get an education, who will for the rest of their lives live off of bare necessities and such.

Now of course those are the extremities in the example, but the point I am trying to make here is clear.

Choice is an illusion.

Even someone like myself who was born with a strength in cognitive thinking. I did not choose to have that strength or skill, i was just born with it. Its how my brain is wired. My taste in humor, the foods that taste good to me, the music I like. There are so many factors that go into why I am the way I am. Programmed assets and tendencies that again you did not choose. Could you change what your favorite color was on purpose, or change the size of your penis?

Another good explanation. When you are just a fetus, you are still in your mothers womb. You eat what she eats, if she smokes or drinks or takes drugs, that will effect you. You share emotions. If she is stressed, depressed, paranoid, that will go into the development of your brain. You can hear what she hears. My father was very violent and aggressives sometimes, he was bi-polar among other things I dont wish to share. When he was screaming, threatening my mother and she was pregnant with me, I could still hear that. Although I did not know what was being said because I had not been taught english obviously, I could still interpret vocal tones and feel the fear and other emotions she was feeling. And that went into my chemical make up. This isnt speculation or a theory, this is fact.
