The Selective Service

If you are a man, this applies to you. The Selective Service is an active law that requires all able-bodied men to register for the Military Draft when they reach the age of 18. What this means is, if World War 3 starts tomorrow, and you are 18 and have a penis, you are going. No matter what you do, you will be penalized in one way or another.

The way I look at it, you have 4 things that can happen to you.

1.) You register lawfully, and never get drafted.

2.) You find a loophole, and prove that you have some sort of illness or disability that exempts you from participating. A "get out of jail free card."

3.) You refuse to register, and can face up to 5 years in prison and a 250,000 dollar fine. I believe there are other significant penalities, for example in New Jersey you cannot attain a driver's license.

4.) You register, get drafted and leave the war with PTSD, a wound that cripples you for the rest of your life, or you die. All because you were born with a penis.

I know what it is to be a man. I know that you are taught not to complain, to be physically and mentally stonger than women. To not show your emotions, to have to toughen up no matter what the situation. This law is unjust, its sexist and you dont have to conform to it. I am trying to spread awareness, and trying find a way to resolve this huge problem I see in our society. I am interested in hearing your guys' thoughts and suggestions on this matter. Let your opinions be heard in a respectable manor.

You should be scared. And dissapointed, and angry that our government thinks it is necessary to single out our gender as a resevoire to kill, conquer and destroy for unjustifiable reasons.

You dont have any favorable options. You can run, you can resist, or as I said you can try to prove that you are unable to fight. You have until you are 18 to figure out which you will do.

Over who has more possession of material goods? For land, power and control? Its all fabricated greed, none of it even matters. I want to rid our country of the draft, and I want to rid the world of war.

Im not sure what the standards are, you would have to look into that yourself. Canada..maybe. I want to go north, to Sweden or Norway where I think people are more like I am. I am not trying to push fear or worry onto you, I am just informing you of the harsh reality that all of us men must face.

You want to know something I find fucked up? Senior year, we had to do a graduation project in my government class. There was a long list of different things you could do, each holding their own "point value." And you could do any combination of things, as long as the total summed up to 200 points. One of the things on the list was to register for the Selective Service. Obviously it was exclusive to men. Looking back, my teacher always talked about how he was a very conservative republican. I cant help but feel taken advantage of and indoctrined by him. It was his last year of teaching, I think he was carrying out a political agenda. Even at age 18, I didnt realize what I was doing to myself, and what he was doing to me. It was like the easiest thing on the list to complete, the project was so hard and daunting, of course all of us guys did it. Pisses me off now that I think about it.

Everyone has their own agenda, and there's no conceivable way to be neutral. In any situation, your own thoughts, opinions, values, morals, etc. will all play a part. That does seem like a very shitty thing to do, on his part. However, I can't help but think I would do the same type of thing if I were in his shoes; with a different choice, obviously. The Selective Service is fucked up, and I hope no one has to ever participate in such a cruel system.

Only the United States. There may be similar legislation in other countries.
