Hi.
My message, through this threead is that "Screamo" is not a Genre.

The Term "Screamo" was coined back in the 1990's, when bands began to experiment with a deeper, Raspier Vocal technique that is now classified as "Growling".
It had a massive surge of popularity in 02' - current, when Punk adapted an occasional "Scream".
This led those who enjoyed the occasional scream, to hear of bands who would scream through
their whole entire song, and what was before a small underground Sub-Genre of punk, was now a popular Genre.

To Clarify, here are a few Genre's people can mistake for "Screamo"...
Alternative Metal
Ambient Pop
Black Metal
Crunk
Crunkcore
Deathcore
Death Metal
Death Rock
Extreme Metal
Garage Punk
Grind Core
Grunge
Grunge Hardcore
Hardcore Punk
Melodic Hardcore
Pop Punk
Post Grunge
Post Hardcore
Post Metal
Street Punk
and more....

If I hear that fucking annoying yelling that sounds like someone has strep throat I consider it Screamo, even if it was just for a second. In my mind Screamo is a genre.

I did expect to get posts like this.
The only thing I can say to you, is that your opinion is just that. An opinion.
What I said above... That is truth. Fact.

This is all dandy and fun, but you really can't expect people who don't like this type of music to acknowledge the different names of genres that all sound the same.
Not to mention the fact that a lot of the genre have odd and confusing names.

It shall always remain screamo in my mind.

I actually hate listening to people scream nothing and get paid from little emotional goth/emo kids buying it.

Let me enlighten you.

EMO
"Emo's" are rare. Emo people are imotionally disturbed, and find escape through the acknowledgement of pain. It reminds them that they are there by choice, and there is always an escape if neccesary.

GOTH
Goth... I don't know what to say about Goth people. They are generally overweight, and think distortion is beauty.

SCENE
Now for the most common. "Scene".
Scene is simply a style. Scene men have the "Emo Flip" and Scene girls have longer hair, with a sort of flip over one half of thier face. Scene fashion is quite general, however, it is also defined by the individual. I sort of consider myself scene.

Now, how does music assosiate with any of these? It doesn't. However, Scene people often like to feel different from the crowd, so they don't like mainstream, and Hardcore music is as far away from Mainstream a you can get.
