Tithes and offering

This question is for Catholics. I just want to know what was the tithes and offering in the catholic mass. I mean there were collectors to collect money and there were some who walk down the aisle to the priest and gave something. I don't know what is the tithes there and what is the offering. I saw someone who walked the aisle and gave an envelop to the priest. I think that's the tithes but some says that was the offering and in the collectors were the tithes. I'm really confused.
