Welcome to my tutorial on how to create 3D text and add a material to that text.
I made a tutorial back in October (located
here), but tinypic is a little bitch. So here's a new one, I remade the pictures and added more info.
Enjoy
Well we will be making something like this:
When you first open C4D, you'll have this.
To insert text, go to
Objects,
Spline Primitive, and
Text.
Now you should have this:
Now to make it 3D do these steps.
- Go to Objects
- Select NURBS
- Select Extrude NURBS
- Drag your text onto the Extrude NURBS in the top right
Now your text should look like this:
*Note*: I changed the text to "RuneGear". To do this:
- Select your text
- Type what you want below Object Properties
To make the text wider:
- Click on the "Extrude NURBS" your text is on
- Down below, click Object
- Under Object Properties, change the value of the third box in Movement
Now that's it if that's all you want to do.
But I'll show you how to add color to your text.
To do this, you have to go to the
Materials box in the bottom.
Now you hit
File and
New Material or hit CMD/Ctrl + N or Double Click in the Materials box.
You should have this sphere in that box now. Shown here:
To edit the texture, just double click it and add the effects you want.
Experiment with the different settings until you find something you like.
Now you obviously want to apply that material to your text.
It's real simple, just drag the sphere onto the
Extrude NURBS in the top right.
Your text should take on the material. Shown here:
*Note: This is rendered. To render: type CMD/Ctrl + R
In the example I provided at the beginning, the text is two different colors. To do this:
- Click on Extrude NURBS
- Copy it (CMD/Ctrl + C or Edit, Copy)
- Then Paste it (CMD/Ctrl + V Edit, Paste)
- Then you may change the text/add a different material to it
Please at least say thanks, it took me a while to make this.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or post here.
Thanks for reading,
