Basically every 3 char twitter account was created years back, since then a lot of the owners haven't signed in to their email accounts they used to create the twitter. Email providers delete accounts after a period of inactivity which allows that email address to be created again.

People stalk through lists of 3 chars/inactive accounts attempting to guess and then recreate the emails attached to the account so they can then reset it and claim the account for themselves.

I'm not saying this is how OP got his though (it might have been but idk there are other ways too) but it definitely attributes to the spam of them being sold.

This is pretty spot on m'dude. I guess that'd make it clearer for the person above, however, I'm not sure that's what he asked... I think it was a rhetorical question.

Hit the forgot pass button on the twitter homepage, put the user name in and it should give you part of the email with a bunch of it starred out.

From there you gotta try guess the email, this is easier than it sounds because most these people have their names as their emails lol
