Well I have one already in my head which is good, but I won't reveal it yet. I'm just interested in your methods of stopping scammers, dealing with scammers and finding out who scammed.

A general report method which would outline a form which should be filled in and whats needs for action to be taken.
I can't think of many other ways except from members contacting staff directly.
Unless all trades take place over MF through a system then all actions can be recorded. If it's done offsite then MF can't take action except for extensive proof given.

I think the only way to actually stop scammers is to al ways use a "MiddleMan".

It would be possible to set up a script to interact with paypay, AP, Liberty Reserve, Money Bookers, etc.

But that script would have to be able to receive money, use the IPN of the service to record it, and send the money again when both the seller and buyer agree on it.


That would be a lot of work, and professional Scripters to do it.

That's okay for people who believe in Karma, I personally don't.

Another method which was pitched to me was "write a tutorial on how to record your deals", meaning people will record their transactions. It's good I suppose as you can't really have fake proof, and it would allow MF to deal with scammers outside of the site. We'd have to write a tutorial on how to do it though.

This way if someone chooses to be stupid and not use one they will have to deal with it themself. If they use a mm there will be no scams therefore there will be no reports surley decreasing scamming and eventually ending it.

But that isn't a method to introduce as users want a quick easy sell. Forcing the use of a middleman wouldn't help that. Also to substitute for when this site grows. The need for more middlemen would be introduced and the chance of a middleman scamming would increase.
The best way for now is as stated having a proper form of recording the transactions a tutorial how. Then if we grow we can invest in a proper system for transactions to occur. I have Ideas of how it should work and will relay them in the staff section. But it will come in at a later time.

I see this suggestion on many forums. However, I completely agree with Campbell. You're going to need a hell of a lot of "trusted" users to do this, as people want quick sales and cannot rely on middlemen (who won't be payed, so dedication will be unreliable). However, we could still introduce that idea anyway for users to opt for, like Sythe use.

I still feel the recording of the transaction is best, where we can then deal with scammers off MF (as msn is the most popular negotiator). We can look at all PMs here, maybe that's the safest place to do a transaction but it's not preferred by sellers or buyers. I might get a custom coded plugin for MF for a vouch system, but I'll need to discuss it with Staff so I can design it accurately to be coded correctly, but I don't have the funds for that at the moment, if I'm perfectly honest.

Once again you jump into the same issues as "middlemen", activity, time and loyalty. It's something middlemen could do, but it won't be our official way of protecting the customer/buyer.

Oh looks good. There will always be people who will scam, but here we will ban him unless we want to let people scam more, action needs to be taken just as it happens.

With that plugin it's pretty impossible to scam. You buy it, and automatically get the download link. Only trouble could be chargebacks. If those do occur you go back into recording your paypal for proof, as screenshots can be edited, and the user will get a chance to explain his actions or be banned.

Then a staff member can go teamview the guy and see if he used any kind of java script to do a fake 'chargeback' proof.

You funny girl you. They can be easily faked, I rather go teamview that guy, I can do it just to protect MF.

Yes but activity is a problem. Users could always request an official middleman if they wished, like Sythe has. Though our main system will need to be a system that doesn't require a third party, to increase speed.
