What are your thoughts on undercover cops in highschools?

Just wondering what everyone thinks about Police Agencies placing undercover police officers into Highschools, hiding as high school students and targeting other students trying to pressure them into buying & selling drugs, normally marijuana.

Personally I think this is an absolutely disgusting practice. This should never be a thing, why are we trying to ruin young peoples lives by going directly into their place of trust, namely a highschool where you're supposed to be able to learn, create life long friends, and have fun, by now giving them criminal drug records. Makes absolutely no sense to cripple our young generation before they even start their lives.

Here's a good video on it, where a Bipolar Autistic Teenager w/ tourettes, was busted after an undercover officer pressured him heavily into buying weed for him.

This is just another example of a breach of trust from "big brother" to the public. As you pointed out, I think this would be extremely counteractive and crippling. Im tired of stupid fucking people with influence and power coming up with ideas like this. Just leave everyone alone, enforce the necessary laws to prevent serious crime.

It almost reminds me of the show "Bait Car" where police purposely place nice vehicles in troubled areas of the certain cities and wait for someone to steal it, only so they can bust their ass and "take another criminal off the streets." Its creating crime. That persons going to get 15 years for GTA and come out far worse than they were when they went in. Its just regurgetating garbage.

Yup, I absolutely agree. That person was walking to wherever they were going and were not looking to steal a car. The police leave a bait car, and their willpower overpowers them and it happens.. And the police pat themselves on the back. Very disturbing that they go after citizens like this just because their desperate to fill their jails.

I think it's fine. They are just doing their job. Cleans the schools. Drugs are bad kids. Don't do drugs. 90% of the time you do drugs you die all the time.

The police themselves are doing their job. They enforce the law, but this is going beyond that. Laws are supposed to prevent people from doing bad things. I would argue that this "project" is creating and enabling bad things, and punishing and enforcing after. That is not how things should work. The people who passed the legislature that allows this to happen are the ones who are at fault.

Drugs are not all bad. People who abuse them are. Drugs themselves are a luxary and an asset. They can be used for many positive things. I dont think they have a place in schools though.

90% of the time you do drugs you die? Well, thats far from true. Everyone uses drugs. We all have them in our homes. We use them to cure what we cannot.

Lastly, 100% of the time you do anything, you die.

Definitely not fine if one is pushed and pushed and pushed on doing what one is asking to be done. If the kid said no once, then the guy should fuck off, unless the kid had reports of smoking weed before? I did not watch the video as my sisters laptop (I am currently on) has some shitty fucking speakers.

Basically what happened was, this kid had 0 friends. Then all of a sudden this new guy joins the school and befriends him, his parents are so happy that he finally has a friend at school. They begin texting all the time, and the undercover cop begins asking him to get weed because he (the undercover) needs it to help cope with stress. It took the kid with autism 3 weeks to find week, which was half off a joint that he bought off a homeless person (How is it safe to put a mentally disabled person into that situation?), and the cops came into his school and arrested him and the school want's to expel him (The autistic kid)

Why pick on the kid with autism rather than the popular kids? That's just fucked up. The kids life is fucked already, why make it worst? I want to body that fucker

I mean it's kinda of a violation of privacy. It's also a bit cruel in a way.

Lol I was fucking with you. If you read it, 90% of the time you do drugs you die all the time, doesn't make to much sense.

But anyway I don't really like that they do this.

Troll elsewhere then. "Fucking" with people has no place in the Philosophy and Debates section.

This was right near my house, and the video hit me really hard because I've heard of situations like this. Very disappointed with our local police department :/

I think it is stupid if they are pressuring mentally disabled people to commit a crime. I think it is fine if they try to find dealers in the school, but borderline forcing people who can't properly think for themselves to commit a crime...

I'm fine if they go into schools undercover, as long as their busting the people who actually have already set up drug rings, and the people who already sell drugs, compared to pressuring kids who have never touched drugs and especially the mentally disabled. Such a shame.
