What defines a person's intelligence?

The question came to mind when I saw somebody insulting someone's "lack of intelligence".

My question is, what really defines someone's intelligence?

Immediately people jump to factors like; knowledge of mathematics, science etc, and although they aren't wrong, I don't completely agree that you should be judged on your number skills.
There is a big difference between textbook knowledge, and knowledge gained from experience, and personally, I think the latter is a more contributing factor to a person's intellect.

That's just my opinion, I'd like to hear yours.

Their life decisions. That's what defines intelligence in my opinion. Life's ordeals and how they handle them.

The choices and decisions you make especially when you are facing a huge obstacle/problem shows how smart you are. That's how I personally see it. Also getting into other people's mind, playing with there point of view to let it change can only be done by the most intellectusl people, stocks sellers are really intelligent while they might not be the best with numbers. You might tell me this is charisma, it is true but you can only earn charisma if you are astute.

I sense intelligence is simply the efficiency of the brain, connoting speed, accuracy and integrity, in altering information and anticipation to arrive at conclusions and perceptions.

I feel that the choices and decisions that work to shape our life are what define someone's true intellect. Almost anyone can gain a significant textbook knowledge in various areas. Now, don't get me wrong. This knowledge can most certainly work to improve someone's intellect in various areas of their life. However, I do not feel that the knowledge gained from a textbook is necessarily the sole knowledge that can define a person's intelligence.
