Mantras are powerful sounds and when chanted with devotion produce enormous effects. Mantras are well-off in their meanings and their meaning can be meditated while chanting...
As the mind concentrates more and more on mantra and its meaning, it conditions the mind and takes up to the higher states and forms the path to salvation - the eternal bliss...

Mantra is a brief sound made consciously that enters into subconscious and vibrates. It leads to superconsciousness and reproduces fruit. Mantra vibrates in the deep self and touches the inner core.

It is a prayer addressed to the symbolic representation of the Supreme Divinity, believed to reside in the sun. The mantra's meaning and significance is very vast in scope and takes most people years of meditation and practice to internalize.
There is power in repetition, and there is power in remembrance.

Mantra is a divine combination of divine syllables or sounds which when chanted with devotion, faith and emotion gravitate the concerned God or Goddess or deity and secure their divine blessings. For divine help one must link with divine forces but majority of humans are unaware of these forces and have no link whatsoever. But when an individual starts chanting Mantra related to a particular deity regularly the gap between him and the concerned divine force steadily decreases. By regular use of Mantra a subtle link is formed and through this one could then obtain any desired boon within the power of the deity. One could obtain wealth, prosperity, fame, fearlessness, success and spiritual upliftment, but for each a different Mantra is chanted and a different deity propitiated.

I really don't know what is mantra is,but when i search it it says like this:
A mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that is considered capable of "creating transformation" (cf. spiritual transformation).[1] Their use and type varies according to the school and philosophy associated with the mantra.[2]
Mantras (Devanāgarī मन्त्र) originated in the Vedic tradition of India, later becoming an essential part of the Hindu tradition and a customary practice within Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism. The use of mantras is now widespread throughout various spiritual movements which are based on, or off-shoots of, the practices in the earlier Eastern traditions and religions.

Mantra is a Sanskrit word. It is very effective while we are meditating. For example, chanting the mantra OM during meditation gives us internal peace.

Mantras are Vedic in origin. The teachings of the Vedas consist of various Mantric chants or hymns cognized by different seers or Rishis from the Cosmic Mind. Since the Vedas are impersonal and eternal, the exact historical date of the origin of Mantra chanting is hard to arrive at.

The word of mantra comes from Sanskrit and means "tools/instrument of thought".They are sounds, syllables, words or groups of words that are repeated with the goal of creating a positive transformation within the person.

At some point or another you will have probably seen group of Hare krishna's chanting Hare krishna together in a certain order and fashion - this is their mantra.

However mantras do not have to be chanted out loud, they can be voiced internally. They are used this way in Transcendental Meditation with each individual having their own individual mantra unlike the group mantra of the Hare Krishna's.

Is there is an area of your being you would like to develop further then a selecting a mantra relative to this goal can be extremely helpful. For example, if you are someone who often feels anxious then you could choose a mantra like "serenity encompasses me" or,more simply,'peace' to repeat to yourself.

Some find that repeating a mantra helps them slip into a meditative state more easily as it can be focused on more keenly than the act of breathing with contains several different processes.
