Religion itself has a lot of different aspects and person pluses. I personally am a Christian, but I was wondering what do you guys feel people get out of being a certain religion? I don't want to specify different religions, or go into the main points of each religion, but just a generalization.

I guess you could say it just over complicates things, but from someone who is more into religion, it may be their spiritual way of life.

Every religion is all based on faith, and it does make things more complicated.

Let me tell you something (Hope this doesn't offend anybody), God and an imaginary friend aren't different, the bible and a fairy tale aren't any different.
To say that the bible that %100 Jesus's word means you're fucken retarded, Jesus didn't speak or write in english.

I'm Catholic, and I think any religion is fine. I mean, what you believe in is your thing. You can't change who someone else is, but you can find yourself. Which is weird that I say that because of 2 things. 1: got that off Nickelodeon when I had to watch it with my little cousins.. and 2: it sounds hippee-ish But yeah. I think religion is used for those who aren't firm believers to be an anchor for hope and happiness.

it's there to make people feel better about life.
i believe in god & stuff but i don't agree with
a lot of stuff that i've herd about in the bible.
never read it lol.

but i think it's there to make people stay in line,
in a way. like a code of conduct to live by.
to get to a special place in the afterlife.

It's to comfort people. I mean, let's say you are a Christian. You are getting old and fear death, or will be facing death soon in some way. Wouldn't you feel better believing when you died you were able to see everyone you loved who has died again? Rather than thinking of death as nothing... I mean, even if it's not real, it gives people something to believe in when they need it most. Religion gets people through hard times. I'm a Christian myself, but I'm not very religious, like I don't go to church or anything, and I don't have much of a view point on Religion.

I'm addressing this, because everyone who has answered, has answered horrendously. The main purpose of religion was originally to comfort those of the unknown, but now we have science, making religion outdated. Not to provide comfort for personal reasons, however, now it's used for the contrary.
