Is it easier for women to get laid compared to men?
I think society sets it up so that men have a more difficult time getting laid.
Men and women are held to different standards when it comes to sex. In general, men don't get a bad reputation if they have lots of sexual partners (within reason, eventually they will start getting seen as a "player", but that's still not as stigmatizing as a woman being seen as a slut). Women are generally viewed negatively, by both men and other women, if they have a lot of sexual partners (and for a lot of people, "a lot" is still a pretty low number).
Because having "too many" sexual partners will get a woman a bad reputation (easy, a slut, not girlfriend-material, etc.) they need to be more cautious about who they have sex with. If they have one night stands, or even if they have sex with people who they might not end up in a long term relationship with, they risk their "number" going up. So, women are forced to have higher standards for who they have sex with. for instance, it has to be with someone they love or are in a long-term relationship with.
Women have to be more "choosy" when it comes to sexual partners (to avoid a bad reputation), yet men have less reason to limit their sexual partners. Since women have more reason to say "no" to sex, they end up with more power when it comes to sex.
When a man is looking or sex, he needs to work harder for it and prove to a woman that he's "worthy". Since men need to work harder, they might be less picky when a willing women does come along because it happens less often.
The only way to "balance this issue" is for people to change their view on female sexuality. If we allow women to engage in sex without being judged negatively/stigmatized, there will be more women willing to have sex and men will have an easier time finding a female partner.
Who do you think has it easier and why?
