Why do we get so much hate?

When at school/public places, people can express and talk about their religions freely. They can wear shirts like "I Jesus" and "Jesus loves me".

But when a non-believer expresses their opinion it cause outbreak and chaos. I see people at my school wearing shirts, bracelets, tattoos, and jackets with messages that promote religion and their beliefs. But when I wore a jacket with the Atheist symbol (The jacket: here), I got in trouble and the administrators/discipline directors had a problem with it. Every one told me I was going to go to "Hell"...etc.

They told you that you're going to hell? And you got in trouble? That's disgusting, and I believe you 100% because this happens all over the country everyday. It used to be worse, a couple hundred years ago you would be killed on site for being an atheist, and probably tortured first.

To answer your question, we get so much hate because with religion comes intolerance. These people are brainwashed; they have a false sense of reality and become angry when someone doesn't agree with their beliefs. They act on that anger with threats and sometimes become violent.

What I think is that he isn't real. We all came out of a woman knowing nothing but only breathing. We are all born atheist.

I have never heard of this happening. In fact its usually the other way around.. I constantly hear about athiests "fighting" to remove religion out of school. If what they did is true and you were bitched at by an employee or principle then they broke the law and you can sue there ass. Now if you go to a private school then your shit out of luck.

Do you go to a private religion school? Public schools usually tend to be against religious importamce in schools. On the other hand, if you were bragging about it for attention, then yes, you deserved it.

That's not exactly true. We have every right to bash your religion, because it's silly. What people fail to see is that we are not criticizing you, we are criticizing your beliefs. There's a huge difference.

Also, atheists don't have to prove their correctness, as they are not making any claim. The theist is the one who is making the claim and therefore must provide proof.

Religious points of view are not as credible because they lack evidence for their claims. Most atheists will use evidence to back their claims, making them more credible.

Science has disproven claims made by religion for centuries.

Lol @Color you're so silly. Jesus never existed. His story was stolen from gods of other civilizations who "existed" hundreds-thousands of years before Jesus supposedly did. A couple examples are Sol, Mithra and Horus. They were born of a virgin on December 25th, they had 12 disciples, etc. Look it up, anyone with common sense can see that the story of Jesus was stolen, which means he never existed. So @mother is Correct both in what he said about Jesus, and what he said about everyone being born An atheist. You're ignorance is showing.

The biggest problem with this is that until we've explored every inch of existence, and learned every piece of information to be learned, we'll never know for sure. A belief is a belief, whether it be believing in nothing or believing in everything. Although it may not be proven scientifically, neither has it been disproven.

I meant in relation to other things such as evolution or the Big Bang. They do not have to provide evidence to disprove god, the theist has to provide evidence to prove god.

@Color there is ample evidence to support the "claim" of their being no god. I know for a fact that no god worshiped on this earth exists, and I can prove it. I'm at work so I don't have time to type out a long explanation, I might just make it it's own thread sometime very soon. To summarize though, every religion is filled with non sense, perversion, violence, hatred and illogical and contradictory literature. You really have no argument, you look silly by defending religion because it's littered with silly things.

It sucks that you went through this. Personally I'm a Christian but I don't think that just because you aren't the same as us doesn't or satianists that you should be treated any different. I don't feel as if I have to proof my God. Even if he isn't, (and one day I'll find out), he's a way for me to have hope. I love to see other people's perspective on topics such as this.

I'm going to try wording this as delicately as possible. Most Christians/Muslims/Jews view atheists as threats to their faith. Not directly, because nothing you say will ever sway them, but it's kind of like someone with leprosy, we just avoid them at all costs. Don't hang around them/acknowledge them/etc. And in a world where non-seculars are just above homosexuals on the minority scale (I think 6% of the world is gay, 6% of non-Asian people are atheists), it's not hard to believe that you're going to be shunned. I personally keep my faith to myself. Yes, I have a tattoo of the cross on my left arm, but I don't wear it like a badge of belief. The problem with most atheists I know (personally) is that most (not all) of them go out of their way to express themselves verbally when a believer says anything involving their faith, even if not in a preachy way. Atheism IS a religion, itself. I mean, you kind of know that when even Richard Dawkins and Seth MacFarlane don't want to be labeled as atheists. That groundwork out of the way, I'll just say that I don't preach my faith. I don't insist on others preaching theirs. I keep my mouth shut, I expect atheists to do the same. Also, when you say the Lord's name in vein, which is something my faith holds dear, and I don't say anything, I feel you don't have a right getting mad when I say a prayer or something like "bless you". That's hypocritical. We're all members of the same race, on the same rock, at the same time. We can and will have to co-exist until the end of time and the general topics in this forum threaten that peace, which is why I'm still for getting rid of it entirely. It's supposed to be intellectual debating, but 90% of the time someone gets angered or offended, only causing harm to the community and animosity among its members.
