Why do we hate?

What causes our minds to believe so negatively towards someone or something to the point where we cannot stand thinking about that someone or something? If negativity is wrong, why do we constantly attempt to prevent hatred and abuse and all forms of negativity, by telling each other that what your doing is wrong? Wouldn't that mean it is wrong to use negativity as a defence against negativity?

We are constantly telling the public, or the world, Peace and love is the correct way of life, and bringing violence and hate to each other will never become of anything good. Why is it so important to be good? Why has society set a standard that being nice and happy and positive the only way to live life?

Sorry if the title was a bit off topic but my mind was running and I felt as though I'd rather write down my instantaneous thoughts then attempt to second guess myself. I seem to find beauty in things that were said or written without a second thought, as it shows who you really are and how you interpret the world.

You went in a few different directions, but I'll attempt to tackle the second paragraph.
Well personally, I believe that objective right and wrong doesn't exist naturally, rather we as humans form universal morals. We create categorical imperatives to ensure that society does not fall apart. We universally posit that murder is wrong, because if posited that murder is right, then society would lose trust in each other, people would fear each other, etc: society falls apart. As humans, all our actions should be based on fulfilling our personal moral duty to society.

Now, I don't believe negativity (as long as it's reasonably so) is a bad thing. People should be able to speak negatively, as long as it is in a peaceful manner, ie you can protest about how much you hate something, as long as you aren't inflicting physical pain or inciting a panic.

You know, I ask myself this every day. I'm not a person to hold grudges or hate anyone, but I know a lot of people are. It's utterly pointless since we only have one life to live and are stuck with each other, so why not make the best of it? Do you know where I'm getting at? I've been saying the same thing for a long time now and finally realize there is absolutely no point of hating someone, for a petty reason.

It's to ensure the survival of the human race. That's the meaning of life. Survival.

I was talking about online/over the interwebz btw. It's pointless.
Is it because they're jealous? Insecure? There could be many possible reasons, the human mind is amazing.

A lot of people are self entitled and egoistic, and antipathetic towards everyone just because that's the way they were raised. Genetics has some impact, but I would argue it's affected more by one's upbringing.
