Chewbaka said:Try getting a new router. There is no reason you should still be using a wireless G router (assuming you don't have outdated wireless cards that don't support wireless N). You can find a cheap wireless N router for around $40, but it would be better to get like an $80-100. Make sure it supports up to 300Mbs transfer rate.

What is your preferred maker of routers? Belkin, D-Link, Linksys, etc..

This is even happening when I'm the only person using a computer in my house. Although it is substantially worse when someone is watching even a simple video on YOUTUBE..

I pay for 55mbps and I get... 1.58mbps..

They claimed I'd get a wireless router from THEM, but that's not the case. They still refuse to give me one.
Adam said:Your speed of downloading files will depend completely on how fast the server you're downloading it from is. If you only get 400kb/s it will max out at 400kb/s but even if you have 1 GB/s and the server can only send you 1mb/s you will get 1mb/s.

Meh same concept with me, speedtest claims I get 10MB/s download speed yet the highest I've ever downloaded something was like 1.2MB/s, but I do have a shitty router so that could be it.
