Everyday, we put our trust in technology, we put our trust in our cars, hoping they won't malfunction, we put our trust in the foods we eat, and everyday there are more and more advances with technology. Everything now-a-days is pretty much considered "technological". We have robots to clean for us, make our foods, clothes, everything. Majority of products around are made by robots. This causes a dependency on technology, therefore causing more and more technology advances. Sooner or later we will be so technologically advanced, that robots will over power the human race, because at the rate we are going, there will be a robot to do anything for you.

What do you think? Do you think technology will lead to the extinction of the human race?

- By robot I mean technological devices, etc. Not the things you see in sci-fi movies.

RE: Technology = Extinction in humanity?

You are right that we are reliant on technology, but that is no grounds to assume that we are going to be overrun by robots. It sounds to me as if you've just come home from the latest Transformers film.

Are you suggesting we start walking everywhere again like cavemen ? Do you suggest we don't eat and drink water all the time? And the whole robots overpower the human race thing is hollywood bullshit just like the walk dead type shit.

I find it blatant technology will render our demise. However, by technology I don't insist Hollywoodesque evil robots, I mean warfare, bombs, weapons of mass destruction.

Like I said in the OP, I didn't mean those kind of robots, The type of robots that do every day things. like your computer.

Without technology, there would, indubitably, be a population cap on humanity. Technology will forever, and always, be humanity's greatest achievement. It has accellerated our production, as a species, by a considerable amount. Technology will never lead to our extinction because humanity, to put it simply, ain't stupid. We are always vigilant, cautious, and, more importantly, safe. Everything dangerous is always quarantined and experimented with.

I think this could be a thing, not sure if any of you have ever read the book Fahrenheit 451, it is a pretty good book, but the world behind the book is all technology and there are no books, no education, all "robots" as you call them. I think that there needs to be a fine line between self dependance, and being dependent on technological things. As of now I feel we have that line, I think that day by day we begin to push towards being dependent on technology but I also don't believe that it's bad thing. As long as we do not let that take over us.

Haha overpowered robots, that's nothing to be afraid of infact I'm sure I could name a lot of other things more threating than that.

I'll focus on what @Cann!bal said, we already have enough WMD to destroy the world think about what will warfare will be like in the next few hundred years.
