If it is too hard then I will think of an easier one even though this is way easy (for me) lol

QUESTION: When Welding with the TIG (GTAW) Process, If the electrode has an Orange end what is it called?

Tell me what a TIG(GTAW) electrode is called (It's nonconsumable*hint*) and what it means if it has an Orange end.


Hey guys, I've got 16k iron ore ready to give away, it equals about 2.4M.

I am going to be doing a welding knowledge contest I think so start browsing for possible answers.

2% Ceriated (Color Code: Orange)
2% ceriated tungsten electrodes (AWS classification EWCe-2) contain a minimum of 97.30% tungsten and 1.80 to 2.20% cerium. These electrodes perform best in DC welding at low current settings but can be used proficiently in AC or DC processes. With its excellent arc starts at low amperages, ceriated tungsten has become popular in such applications as orbital tube and pipe manufacturing, thin sheet metal work or jobs where small and delicate parts are welded. Like thorium, it is best used to weld carbon and stainless steels, nickel alloys and titanium, making it an obvious replacement for 2% thoriated electrodes.

Well, it is called burn-off. Orange end allow is ~4% ThO2. (2 is a subscript). The ISO class is WT40 and it will have a ground finish.

i don't know what it is called but it's made out of tungsten
the orange electrode is for low amperage applications and is not pure tungsten
