Would you live forever?

In 1903, humankind sprung into the Aerial Age, with the first heavier-than-air craft flying for a just under a minute, covering a distance of 206 meters.

In 1969, we reached the Moon.

In under 70 years we achieved a giant leap forward in technological advancement, and this rate of innovation is only getting faster. Due to this, it is inevitable that in several decades we will experience cybernetic enhancements such as artificial organs and integrated technology.

It is quite plausible that in under 50 years we will see people living well into their 100's - existing in silicone body parts and fake organs.

The question I am asking is - given the option, would you want to extend your lifespan by up to 1000 years?

RE: Would you life forever?

I'd want to live a natural life and not be run by fake organs and machines. I'd take whatever medicines are available but I won't let artificial things take me over

This is my view, I can't wait to see the future, but I don't want to die before I have seen everything I have imagined already about the future. It will inevitably happen and I want to be there when it does.

Yes I would. One thing that scares me though is that the cost of this technology may be too expensive for the majority of the population.

I see your point, it would feel scary and new. However, with the power of artificial bodies - death would become simply a curable disease and not a necessity.

We're brought up in a society which accepts death as something that is inevitable, but I hope that one day it will be something that happens by choice and not by fate.

I would like to live in my prime forever. I would not like to live as a physically old person. I'd like to be a 1000 year old 21 year old, not 85 year old, if you know I'm saying.

That's a valid point, and one reason why I want to be wealthy. Although, I think as science and technology advances, the things we imagine today will be commonplace in the future.

The same for me really, although if there wasn't the possibility for eternal youth then living forever as an 80 year old would be something that I'd be willing to endure just to see our species develop.

RE: Would you life forever?

I'd love to to see what the future is going to be like, but I'm more eager in seeing what happens after death. So no.

we will have to wait 40,000yrs before Voyager 1 reaches its first star, 4 light years away lol. And in 8billion years Andromeda will clash with the Milky Way and our galaxy will be 'Milkomeda' we will have 3 suns and 11 moons in the sky. Now i wanna live to see that. Marty McFly where are you when we need you lol

I'm sure if you lived for 1000 years that in that time somebody would discover time travel, making your hope a reality.

I honestly can't wait for the future.

Yeah, to travel through time, the best way to do so according to current theories is to fly away from Earth at the speed of light for several years, and then return to Earth. Time will have passed faster for you as you reach the speed of light, however for people on Earth they will have lived at a normal rate.

It's really confusing and I find it hard to understand sometimes haha, but it is fascinating nonetheless.

After giving this topic a lot of thought, I've decided that what we are doing in this lifetime is irrevelant compared to what happens after death. It's frightening that someday I'll be non-existant.

It really is man. No matter what technology comes about, I'll never stop building a legacy for my children and their children and so on. Whilst I would like to live forever, there are two options. Either you can live forever through your legacy, or you can live forever through not dying.

Lets put it this way If a pill came out that stopped my aging I would take it at about 26 or 27.

Yes I would live forever if* I didn't age.

Only reason I'd stay a minute longer in this world than I have to is if there's a blunt that I gotta smoke first.

(So, no - I would not extend my life if I could.)

I would not want to live forever, maybe longer, but not forever. Imagine how lonely you would to be, outliving all your relatives, and seeing them pass as you grow old with no family. It would be very sad for that reason alone.
