I plan to start commentating playthroughs of games, like Mario, Zelda, etc. I'm going to have to start sometime, so I figured why not start with an entire Livecom of the Mass Effect series, from 1-3. Anyone have any tips for commentating?

Try to be different from everybody else.
Dont post boring Commentaries over a Mw3 Moab or what ever.
But i think you dont play COD so that shouldn't be a problem. :D

If you choose not to talk a lot, add some music to the background. Also, the kids who watch commentaries on YouTube love it when the commentator rages/swears. So you could try and be a good actor

I dont plan on commentating on MW3 really, I'll be focusing on commentating over playthroughs, just waiting till some wires come in before I begin.

You want to remember to speak with a vocabulary that everyone can understand, dont use words that might be confusing to some people, and always talk about the subject as if you were talking to the viewers in real life, if you say ok guys this this this this they will get bored and probably click on another video, if you say whats up guys, etc etc and crack a joke now and then theyll stay interested yo, thats just my opinion tho =/

Make sure you don't say um, uh, or words like that. Also, make your commentary entertaining. That's one of the most important parts.

Tell some stories. Whenever I watch commentaries, I love it when the commentator tells a story about his life and what happened.

Make sure you don't use the same word too much.
Keep it cool, don't get too nervous.

If you're doing a walk-through, try to stay on topic on the important parts of the video.

Have a nice intro. Not a clip before your commentary, an intro to when you start talking. Kinda something like "What's up everybody, Chronos here, blah, blah, blah..." or something like that.

Watch some other commentaries that you like and try to bring those aspects into your videos.
Ask your viewers what they would like to see.

Oh make up a signature phrase or intro so people have something to remember you by. For example, Whiteboy7thst's intro or how ThesXeB34ST says "What's going down my genitals".

Make sure to right down ideas while commentating so you do not forget your main idea or sub-topic. Also don't talk directly about the game! Talk about a specific topic and or tell a story. No one wants to hear about the game while they are watching the game. A good example of a great commentary would be some of SeaNanner's old stuff.
