Youtube SEO 101
Basics & Getting your video indexed
Introduction
Did you know that SEO is essential to Youtube success? With the help of SEO, your videos can be found both in Google search and Youtube’s own search. If you want to increase your chances of being found successfully in those searches, it’s important to understand SEO for YouTube. This is the main reason why I decided to start a small tutorial series called the Youtube SEO 101. Basically, an in-depth series where I help you guys with the basics and more advanced SEO.
When you look at the term Youtube SEO, what do you see? Obviously, ranking a video, right? However, there is much more to SEO than that. For example, on-video optimization, backlinks, off-video optimization and much more.
So before we get on to our first tutorial, allow me to explain the basics first. Here's two questions you might ask:
- What is Youtube SEO? SEO stands for search engine optimization. We’re referring to how people find your links in search. So basiclly, if your video is about forum korner, will they find it at the top of search when they type “forum korner”? With proper SEO they will.
- What does video indexing mean? This simply means Google is reading your video, assigning a page rank to it, among other things, and adding it to their database. Once you video is indexed, you will be able to find your video on the Youtube search. By "find", it doesn't mean you'll be on the first rank of the searches. Ranking is a completely different thing.
To end this introduction, let me tell you something important. Youtube is becoming an increasingly crowded marketing channel, and just slapping in “easy” subscribers and views will only become harder as more people get in on the action.
First Step
This step is pretty much optional. Once you upload your video, set your video to private. The pupose of setting the video private before working on indexing and ranking is to make some sort of "entrance" when listing it.
Second Step
Go to the
Google Adwords Keyword Tool site. Did you know that you can index your video using a keyword research tool? I didn't think so.
Insert your video URL in the website textbox. BOOM! Google just sent a spider to crawl your video and index it instantly. To higher the chances of getting indexed, I suggest you do the exact same steps on other keyword tools. Some other examples would be:
Third Step
If you did set you video to private, go ahead and set it to public. Keep in mind that this tutorial is only for quick indexing.
NOTE: This does not mean your video will get on the first page of the Youtube search, you'll need to know how to rank a video to do that. I will post a tutorial on that if you guys would like to see more of Youtube SEO 101.
If you need any help with both Google or Youtube SEO, hmu.
