I'm happy with my '06 Malibu MAXX SS, but with that budget, you'll get something better. It is semi retarded to drop $15k on a first car, though.
Sounds like you'd be best with a WRX, as stated above. Just don't be stupid, and with that budget, you'll be fine.

Same with Honda and Acura. I would look into the Acura TL. Beautiful luxurious car that will last at least 250,000 miles. Right in the budget if you look at used ones.
