Well, my hypothesis regarding the human race's inevitable path of self-destruction question is that we'll most likely kill ourselves before nature does it. Probably through nuclear warfare.

Equivalent or rather parallel, or simply Darwinian evolution in parallel universes is exactly what is sounds like. It says that parallel universes use the exact genetic algorithm for natural selection. However, there's no proof this claim is true, it's just a theory.
