The belief of God is not a HOAX which is the answer to your question. The first believers of a God believed Him because they truly thought there was a God looking down upon them, helping them, whatever it may be. Their intention was not to trick anyone into anything. Their intention was/is to get people to follow and praise this God that does X to their lives.

If you're debating the existence of a God, I strongly suggest you re-word your question. Because what you're asking has been answered and clearly explained.

There's absolutely no proof God is real. If there was evidence of God, there would be no atheists.
