Help/Advice/Support Subsection.

I know I am not a licensed therapist or anything along the lines, nor is anyone here (if you are, I stand corrected), but I feel this subsection would be nice.

It could be a subsection in the Lobby, and could be a place where anyone can come for help. It could be personal life help, homework, mental help, situational help, or anything really that someone needs help/advice with.

I've been through a lot in my life already and feel I can share some support/information with people here. I've been through drug addictions, I haven't lived at home since I was 16 so I could talk to people about family problems, I've had school problems, law problems, I've had the same girlfriend since I was 16 so I can talk to people with relationship problems and a lot more. I also know there are other members here with their own life problems/events that could help other members in need.

I don't know, I just feel it would be nice for member to have a place to go where they can seek help from their forum. Some of you may say the lobby is suited for this, but the lobby is so scattered right now and I think this would help motivate others to seek help with something they may be having trouble with.

I'd like to thank you for listening and if this is denied, I will understand fully. I just thought I'd put the idea out there =)

Quote from @"Solidify" regarding more about this section. I recommend you read it along with all the posts in this thread.

I support this implementation but with a couple of twists.

The idea of having a separate sub-forum is a great idea but there are things that we need to consider before doing so. Already that none of us in that section will be licensed to help others with their personal affairs, I can only imagine how degraded the advice is going to be if anyone will be able to provide it. That is why, before we head into making a section, I propose that, through the use of a rigorous standards and systematic evaluation, we hand-pick a select number of members to form a support group. If that group gets big enough (and believe me, I know some of you are thinking that it will but the standards for admittance will be rather peculiar for the sake of providing safe advice) we'll then make this sub-forum, with management's approval.

If all goes as planned, we'd have this new forum run solely by those particular members that were judged adequately to provide safe advice. All members will be able to publish their own topics but only those few members would therein be allowed to reply to them and therefore provide insight on the affairs of others. The reason I think hand-picking support members rather than allowing everyone to provide their own piece of mind is of such great importance is for the simple fact that bad advice can go a long way. I'm currently a member of a support group on a neighborhood forum and can personally vouch that not giving any advice whatsoever is much better than giving bad advice.

This is just a brainstorm that I came up with while writing but of course they'll be more thought that will go into it if management approves of the concept. Lastly, I'd be working with Steezy himself, if he agrees, to handpick and evaluate each applicant.

I for one think the forum is a great idea but it's a delicate matter which is why I'd rather we think it through properly first. Any thoughts, comments, concerns or things you'd like to suggest be added?

This goes for you or anyone.

Whether this section gets passed or not, feel free to contact me anytime for help. I am told that I am a good person to talk to and I can be very helpful in many different situations.

I just don't want anyone to feel like they cannot come to me for advice, my door is always open =).

And this why I +repped you, lol.

I truly appreciate the input and I can agree to it 100%.

People should be aware that none of us are licensed nor qualified, but we can be a shoulder to fall on to look for guidance.

I hope that we can put this into action as everyone needs someone to talk to. I feel that there is a handful of us that will be able to provide that shoulder to fall back on to seek some advice/guidance with problems they may be having.

I have added your post to the OP for people to read over because we all know how many people will actually read every post in a thread, lol.

Well its nice of you and I'd support this section but there are plenty of free and better resources we should instead inform them about.

Of course there is, but people are already comfortable on this forum and it would make it easier for them to open up a bit more.

This was just a suggested sub-section to benefit all of the members here. We all have problems and it may be easier for some people to talk about them to complete strangers.

That would be one of the ways we could help people as well. We could link them to articles/pages with stories/facts as well as help them out from our own personal experience.

I already said that people would be well aware that no one on this forum is qualified to be giving them the advice, we are simply here to help them along.

Have you tried PM'ing The Elite about this?

I totally support this.

Well I guess it's worth a shot and nothing negative could come out of it other then trolls in the section. Don't think it will benefit the forums though.

If you would have taken the time to read my proposal carefully, you'd have taken note that the likeliness of this section having trolls offering advice would be very low. The reason for that is because the people that provide support would have to be evaluate beforehand.

You misunderstood me, I'm not saying trolls offering advice. Instead people trolling and making up fake stories.

How is that any different from someone posting a made-up topic in the lobby and asking for help with it? That's a risk we all have to take wherever we go, it's not just something that could have in the support forum if we made one.

Besides, Steezy and I would inform and teach the members that will be inaugurated tricks to spot trolls.
