Is God Real?

You should live a good life because of common sense, not because of some hopeless faith that a higher power is ultimately deciding to which holding room you'll be going to for eternity.

It seems sometimes religious people have more common sense than non-religious.

and sometimes non-religious people have more common sense than religious people. You can't generalize, the same can be said for both sides. However, when there is no evidence or proof, probability comes into play. Religious people believe in a higher presence which watches over and ultimately created the earth and decides where we go for all eternity. Atheists don't. Which seems more logical to you?

Anyone that has common sense and is a logical thinker knows better than to commit to religion. The contradictions, the impossible things which it claims to have occurred, and the lack of scientific proof should be enough to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

And then on top of that, if you actually did your research and were aware of what religion has lead to, you would understand why so many people condemn it. It's like a smack in the face to see so many people wear religion as a badge when it is something to be ashamed of rather than proud of.

All of the genocide, famine, disease, corruption, power, greed, setbacks, breaches of freedom and personal rights, privacy, an overall limit on what/where our race could be right now if religion ceased to exist. (Society, Government, Technology have all been held back. This is a fact.)

I could go into this with so much more detail but I know it wouldn't be worth the hassle of trying to hammer knowledge into people who follow religion. The thought of that itself is a contradiction.

I believe you can still live a happy and great life without believing in a faith. I understand your logic now, but I'm still against it.

Anyone up for a debate? I want to keep this thread going.

I was just raised up that way and that is what I will always believe in.

For that exact reason I do not respect many religious people. You have a mind of your own, use it to investigate and explore all possibilities rather than settle for what you were told. Don't take this as me coming at you, it just boggles my mind that so many people follow the crowd.

I was raised up to believe in him, too. My mother was a pastor, and my step-father was a pastor, but I don't believe in him. You shouldn't believe in him just because you were raised up to. You should only believe in him if you actually believe in him, not because you were told to.

The amount of common sense a person has does not derive from his or her religious point of view.

Believing in God is something you haft to experience yourself its not easy to make someone believe in God because its all out faith meaning if you can't see it you haft to trust its there and another way to look at it is basically I'd rather waste my time thinking there's a heaven then ignoring it and then go to hell when you die. Honestly there's nothing to lose.

But why would you believe in someone who has never been proven to exist? Why can't he just spare one minute and come to Earth and prove his existence? Then mostly everyone would abide his rules and follow him. It doesn't make sense. I haven't read the whole entire Bible, so I'm not sure if there is some passage that explains why he can't come back to Earth. And also, why would he make the human race so flawed? You're God, you aren't suppose to screw up on something so big. It took over 99.9999% of cosmic history for humans to exist(Not exaggerating, true fact), so what is even the purpose to the universe? Life? No, it shouldn't have taken this long for life to be the purpose and over 99.9% of species that has lived on Earth is extinct. Why would God procrastinate so long to create life and don't you think he had enough time to make humans and not screw up? When you look at the science, God seems to get less and less realistic.

And regarding Heaven and Hell, the concept of a afterlife that rewards or rather punishes based on your behavior as a mortal is ridiculously idealistic. It's a trap really. Religious punishment and reward. It attracts followers, because they believe if they don't do as they they're told to, they'll be punished in the afterlife for eternity, and if they worship their God and obey him they'll be rewarded in the afterlife for eternity. Seriously, how ideal is that? It's the perfect way to trick people into following and believing you. I'm hypothetically going to guess and say that if humanity was the creator of the concepts of religion and deities, then the original creator(s) tricked people into believing them using this ideal trap of a religious reward and punishment system. When Christianity arisen the people then weren't as enlightened as are people today, they did as they were told because they didn't want to live in a place like Hell in the afterlife and during their time, it sounded realistic since they believed in a whole bunch of other religions that would be considered mildly bizarre. But now we know a lot more than we did 2000 years ago. Science is our friend. More and more people are realizing that a concept of a God or deity is pretty... sorry to say... unrealistic.

He didn't make the human race flawed, he gave them free will to choose what they wanted. We choose to be flawed. Don't have time for a full reply now.

How did we choose to be flawed, if he supposedly created us?

Think of it like a son, you could raise him to be the best child ever, but he could still grow up and be a serial killer..

He created us, but we choose how to carry on. God gave us the option to choose how to live our life, he didn't force us to do anything. Now if he did we might be perfect.
